  • 3 weeks later...

Today start the first two european championship qualifiers, a series of small tournaments in which teams compete for qualification to the various divisions of eurohockey championships. All of them will be contested during the following two weeks.

Format is the same for all these tournaments: a round-robin, the 1st team qualifies to european division I for 2023, 2nd and 3rd places teams qualify to division II, 4th placed qualifies to division III.

These are the tournaments... as you can see, we'll have some really bizarre match-ups.

Men

Qualifier A (Ourense) - :ESP:POL:CZE:POR

Qualifier B (Calais) - :FRA:IRL:TUR:LTU

Qualifier C (Vienna) - :AUT:UKR:ITA:CRO

Qualifier D (Glasgow) - :WAL:SCO:SUI:GIB

I'm not shocked about this at all, we barely exists in this sport in recent years. That's all also for Olympic qualifications, but I never expected if we had any chance.

    • Honestly, it’s not very clear what is happening in Italy — anything could happen. There is extremely high turnout, and no pollster, politician, or newspaper had predicted it; now they’re all there throwing out data. No one has any idea why people voted, also because it was very technical and almost empty polling stations were expected. It will be interesting to understand whether this is a protest vote against the government or a protest vote against the judiciary.
