Dorian has slowed down even more, it's now moving with 1 mile or 2 kilometers per hour...which means passing Freeport alone would take 5-10 hours and that's just for the eye, not the wall around it.

I highly doubt he actually made his prediction with a simple ruler :p

No meteorologist has anything to answer for by the way, there's a gazillion factors involved in what happens with a hurricane. I mean, a week ago it looked highly unlikely Dorian would even come close to category 5 and now it's been totally destroying the land it hit.

Then gaze your eyes on this. He made that prediction hours before Charley made a direct hit at my town

I knew a week ago we were gonna get Dorian, but only as a tropical storm or even a Cat 1, and now I'm here awaiting a hit (mostly indirect since I'm inland)

Dorian has been stationary (yeah, it's not moving away...at all!) for 7-8 hours now. This is just ridiculous and pretty much never seen before. Poor, poor Bahamas.

I doubt it's as bad as Irma on Antigua and Barbuda in 2017.

Antigua and Barbuda should really be just Antigua these days, because nobody lives on Barbuda since then.

If a category 5 monster has been pounding the same island for over 24 hours (which in itself is unheard of) while barely moving, I really don't think it'll be much better than the scenes on Barbuda..it might have been if it had moved in a somewhat normal pace, then it would have been long gone now.

Apparently it very quickly dropped to category 3.

Yep, warm water is running out because it's been more or less in the same position for so, so long. Still looks like it's gonna be several hours before the Bahamas are going to be free of devastating winds and rain and after that it's time to see what's still left standing and if anything is still habitable.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
