Brief overview of the Compiegne stage...

It was a rare away from home victory for :GBR Great Britain, although not surprisingly. They did have the strongest team on paper. :SWE Sweden finished 2nd, while :USA placed 3rd with rather an interesting team...

As things stand, :FRA France can hardly be considered to be a frontrunner for a team place for Tokyo. Hell, they barely finished ahead of :SUI Switzerland at their home event, which is rather unbelieveable given the current state of Swiss dressage...

If France had a bad weekend, then :BEL Belgium had an absolute disaster,,. They sent more or less their strongest team, and yet they were way, way behind everyone.. While Simon Missiaen got some unbelieveably low scores, probably the lowest point of Belgian week came earlier today when Isabel Cool retired her mount Aranco V, due to an apparent injury...

All results from Compiegne can be found here.

:DEN Uggerhalne hosted the latest stage of Nations cup this weekend. Danish home team won, in front of Sweden, Germany, Finland and Great Britain.

Danish stars Cathrine Dufour and Daniel Bachmann Andersen both competed on their up-and-coming horses. DBA won both Grand Prix and Special, though.

Seven nations will compete at the premier Nations Cup event in Aachen this week - :DEN:ESP:GBR:GER:IRL:SWE:USA

@OlympicIRL Only a limited number of teams get invited for Aachen each year, so Ireland being one of them is huge. This should be a perfect preparation for the European championships, where hopefully this team will do something of note. :)

So good to see we have a team competing here. Hopefully it can be a long-term trend and not just some freak season for our dressage.

    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
