Canada is now #10 in the women’s World Rankings, the highest ever with coach Winzer, but more importantly we take the lead in the race to the Olympics between us and the Netherlands :cheer::cool:

Canada defeat Thailand 3-1, adding a further 3.69 points towards their World Ranking. Wasn’t able to watch most of the game (only during the breaks in between NHL periods)

Canada defeat Turkey 3-1 in match 1 of Men’s VNL. First set score looks bad, and perhaps it was partly due to them being rusty but Turkey were also on fire (mainly Manderaci) digging everything. McCarthy was a pleasant surprise, and Maar was on fire from the service-line.

We’ve already qualified for the Olympics but with the 6.86 ranking points we gain today, we improve our chances of getting into a more favorable pot by closing the gap to Cuba/Germany/Serbia.

Side note, not sure why Schnitzer is the reserve, he’s one of the top options on this team.

With Thailand’s 3-1 victory over Dominican Republic earlier today, Canada moves up to #9 in the Women’s World Rankings!

Canada sweep Germany during match 6 of Women’s VNL, improving their record to 4-2! With that we increase our lead to 13.7 points over Netherlands for the final spot at Paris! (Although Netherlands do take on a depleted Dominican Republic squad early tomorrow, which should close down the gap momentarily)

Canada played really well today. 54 attack points, 8 blocks, 7 aces, 6 opponent errors, and 11 unforced errors. 6 of the unforced errors were from Kiera Van Ryk :yikes:

Wish we played like this against the United States.

Gray was probably the player of the match for us, but Mitrovic has a great game as well, very efficient with her attacking.

13.7… not 13.2

Have you done an analysis on what gap (in points) is needed to guarantee a quota?

I’ll do that after week 2 probably. Still a lot of matches to be played.

Canada lose 3-1 to Serbia, and are now 0.03 points behind Netherlands for the final Olympic quota. 4-3 record as well.

Worst match of VNL for us. So many easy digs that resulted in Serbian kills. That’s what happens when your two best players are nonexistent, Van Ryk and Gray were horrible lmao.

Likely will come down to a head to head match between the two now.

Canada beats South Korea 3-0 :)

Considering the points difference doesn’t matter, and we’re much better than South Korea, not sure why Winzer wouldn’t use this opportunity to bring in some of the reserves/bench players and give Van Ryk/Gray some rest. Their attack isn’t as efficient as it was during week 1, and I’m starting to think they’re getting a bit tired. Maybe if the sets are close then bring them back in but otherwise…

Decent win, South Korea went on a bit of a run (8-3) near the end, which isn’t ideal but Canada closed it out with a 5-1 run of their own.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
