So 2 of the 4 quarter finals are done and dusted.

Doesn't look like Ireland were much trouble for Australia with the Aussies running out 17-7 winners.

Fiji were able to pull it back in the second half of their QF against USA but came up short to finish 17-22.

Ireland and Fiji will play each other tomorrow in the first of the 5th place semi finals.

Now we have to wait a couple of hours for GBR against France. If GBR can pull off a win, they will favourite to take the final Olympic quota.

It’s weird but I am actually hoping GB can win it because it will make Ireland’s route for the Olympics much easier. Of course if they lose Ireland has a chance of the automatic qualification spot here but if they lose out to Fiji it means the route to the Olympics are harder.

Pretty much, Fiji getting the spot doesn't take anything directly away for Great Britain/Ireland.

The hard part will be actually qualifying to the final qualifier. Poor bracket placement at the European Games could see one of the nations eliminated early or Spain could pull off the upset.

Great news for :IRL

Womens rugby in Ireland has been under a bit of a microscope recently with the 15s team having their worst ever year and players openly talking about lack of resources. So this qualification was badly needed.

Surprised to see :JPN beat :GBR in the other game but it probably still means :GBR (in euro games) and :FIJ (in Oceania) will qualify meaning the top

sides will all go to Paris without the last qualifier

Yup, there's a good chance the roster for the Olympics will be the current core teams plus South Africa who is going to be promoted next season. Maybe China or a different European team might pull off an upset. I don't have a lot of faith in Brazil, but they should still get the South American quota, but maybe Colombia has the game of their lives.

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
