Men's Rugby Sevens WR World Series 2022 - 2023

Recommended Posts

Two rounds of the pool stages are completed.

Things not looking good for South Africa, they need to beat New Zealand in their final game to keep their Olympic hopes alive.

Australia had a bit of a bump against Samoa. Their match against France next will be important in order to get a better quarterfinal opponent. It might be important as it looks like Samoa has come to play this tournament.

The play-off group looks quite interesting. Kenya is in a good position with two wins, but the group can turn into a 3-way 2-1 record tie. In the reverse, Tonga isn't out yet as we can also see a 3-way 1-2 record tie.

South Africa failed to reach the cup quarterfinals. Oceania will be represented by at least 4 nations at the Olympics. In that battle, Australia faces Fiji while Samoa faces Great Britain. Should be interesting tomorrow.

What is the scenario for Australia to qualify?

Australia qualifies with a semifinal finish or with Samoa not winning the tournament.

I’d imagine this is the most the region will have qualified for any sport?

:AUS qualified.

:SAM was seconds away from pulling it off but nope...

Do you know if they are awarding points as usual or like they do with the women's event (since they are doing a 7th & 11th place matches). If it is the latter then Samoa in third & Australia in eighth would be enough

Yes, it's probably like the women's given this:

    • I really hope Nordic Combined doesn't get scrapped. Actually, I believe the Winter Olympics should keep growing with new sports and disciplines (3x3 Hockey, Ice Cross, Speed Skiing, Ice Climbing), otherwise they won't feel like a true celebration of sports like their summer counterpart.
    • In fact, well, no. Hockey is extremely physically demanding, I even think it is the most physically demanding winter sport of all. I mean keeping more than a minute on ice is just cardiac. The shifts are there for a reason.   25 players rosters are absolutely justified. You must have 4 lines to keep the stamina the whole game.   Hard to persuade people who never watched hockey though, I can understand your point, but sadly, the point is wrong
    • Stats are ok, but the time she losts on the range every time... My point was that she is more likely to make us losing the olympic relay than to make us winning it.
    • I'll jump on the off-topic with an unpopular opinion - ice hockey isn't so stamina demanding to justify 25 people rosters. And it doesn't have big playing fields like football or rugby for example, where you'd require so many reserves. 15 field players + 3 goalies should be good. Or 18+3 at max. But 25 is too much imo and the constant substitutes are too much as well.
    • But her shooting surely never was horrendous, or even bad for her standards.
