Surprised to see Iran on podium after a while. :champion: this season was disastrous for all of them, didn't expect anything today (they all lost in Round of 64 yesterday) but they beat Hungary and Italy before losing badly (as usual) to Korea. pity this is not inside the Olympic qualification but still very important to collect points and stay as high as possible in the ranking to have easier opponents for the next tournaments.

but damn this Korean team is too strong. they are almost unbeatable . with Korea being in top 4 is a sure thing. Iran only have to stay higher than China and Japan to qualify for the Olympics but that's not easy anymore. both of them made it to top 8 here. (and we had 4 Asian teams in QF) and specially China is getting better and better.

Mighty Ana takes gold in women epee; she seems to have found the perfect equilibrium after her come-back in 2018 and I hope Ana can keep it up until Tokyo, which is her final target in a glorious career. For those who have missed the final:

If the lights light up exactly at the correct moment, he was definitely first, since his light went on first. Not sure if those lights are 100% accurate though?

no problem...to me, it wasn't even necessary, but "from above" they decided to have 2 separate threads for regular WC and GP...so, I can only follow the rules...;)

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
