No WEL stage this week, but some memorable videos from previous (Mechelen) stage were uploaded.

:POR Maria Caetano & Coroado. Maria became the first Portuguese rider ever to break 80%, while Coroado became the first Lusitano-bred horse to do it. Both truly historic achievements for Portugal and Iberian horses.

Spoiler

:IRL Judy Reynolds & Vancouver debuted their new freestyle with the most Irish music ever. It should have been presented at WEG, but obviously that competition got cancelled due to the hurricane.

Wow, that's impressive. You even used that lullaby-alike song that's played during the walk? :d

I thought 2017 was supposed to be the peak year for Judy and JP (with Europeans that sadly didn't happen due to injury). I'm glad to be proven wrong though. :d They really looked more polished than ever in Amsterdam this week and Mechelen last month.

Sure did, "Siúil a Rúin"... you might remember the video a bit. Just a different version of the song than what Judy used, but same song :)

Yes, I also thought they had probably reached their peak but great to see them breaking new barriers for Irish dressage!

    • Though I did just see that today's race isn't valid for FIS points.
    • Let's not act as if these things never happen before. Serbia's cross-country skiing drama a week before the Olympic qualifying for Beijing ended: FIS | Cross-Country Results - Zlatibor (SRB) 2021/2022   Drndic with a DNF, despite being - on paper at least - the best athlete. She didn't just 'not finish', she stepped out barely 50 meters before the finish, because if finishing, the points for her competitor would have been better due to the way points are calculated. Ended up with lots and lots of yelling and screaming and fighting and cursing, DNS the next day and in the end Serbia sent none of them.   This is not a shit move by Canada, this is a fault of the system at most.
    • Yes agreed, resetting it would help make it more dramatic as no one would be running away with it. We could also set it that there is a small reward for ranking higher after each round… maybe they start the next round with a “head start” so they bring a few points into the next round? But starting from scratch each round might be cleaner
    • I like the concept a lot. My only worry would be that the nations doing the best individually would also end up at the top here as teams are only made up of pairs. Whereas in a bigger team it gives the nations not doing so well individually to have another chance if they are lucky enough to be placed in a good team. Any way we can balance it?
    • I thought about accumulating, but for higher drama it may be reset like in cycling track elimination races
    • Those are the national junior championships, national championships are in Steinkjer, starting tomorrow: FIS | Steinkjer (NOR) - Event Details - Cross-Country
    • Nice for them, but also kind of too bad they pick the exact same two as last time. Would have been nice to see Regina Martinez for example (although I'm not sure that would have been logistically possible, depending on how they're going to do the flag bearer thing in the first place).
