He has the record outright.

He might just be better at sprinting now. Herbie Behm, the new ASU coach, is mostly known for coaching sprinters.

Meanwhile, Summer clocked 2:06.82 in the 200m backstroke placing 2nd to Regan Smith.

Never listen to SwimSwam users

  • 3 weeks later...

One of my favourite weeks of the year is nearly upon us. Canadian Trials begin on June 7th and the psych sheets (entry lists) were released earlier today.

Some interesting observations:

  • Summer is entered in 7 events. Her usual 5 + the 800 free and 200 back. She says she's planning to race 5 events at Worlds. Seems the 400 free, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM are certainties and she'll decide between the 200 free, 800 free, and 200 back as her last event.
  • Mary-Sophie Harvey is entered in a whopping 8 events
  • Despite being the reigning Olympic bronze medalist, Kylie Masse is not racing the 200 back. Perhaps she's prioritizing the 50 and 100 now that the 50 is an Olympic event
  • 2024 Olympians Sydney Pickrem, Regan Rathwell, and Julie Brousseau are all absent from the psych sheets. Maggie Mac Neil, Kelsey Wog, and Rebecca Smith also aren't present but they've all announced their retirements already
  • Finlay Knox is apparently dealing with a back injury but is still competing here in 6 events
  • Javier Acevedo is apparently not retired. He's entered in just the 50 back
  • Ruslan Gaziev is back apparently. There was word that he wouldn't be returning after his doping suspension last year
  • Neither Oleksiak or Ruck are entered in the 200 free likely confirming that their days on the event are over. Also it seems like Penny is entered in the 100 fly for the first time since 2019? (although it's possible she'll scratch it)
  • Looks like Laon Kim is no longer focused on the long distance freestyle events

Notable entries are below:

  • 2 weeks later...

MSH just destroyed her PB in the 200m breaststroke again. Won the final in 2:23.40 and now ranks 6th in the world.

Sophie Angus also qualified for world championships with a new PB of 2:24.84. Bodes well for the sprint events.

Also of note third place Lepage tied the A standard as well, so if one of the first two decide not to do the race in Singapore, Lepage would make the team.

Probably just waiting on MSH :p

Angus only has up to 3 events.

58.18 for Kylie Masse in the women’s 100m backstroke

58.93 for Taylor Ruck, both under the standard and both phenomenal times for them (first time under 59 for Ruck since 2019):hyper:
