Wrestling UWW Junior World Championships 2018

Recommended Posts

so we finish the freestyle competition with 3 medals (with 3 different colors) and 3rd place in team ranking. 3rd place is OK as I knew USA and Russia are much stronger but winning 3 medals is indeed a bad result. but at least they are not going home without a gold medal. at least better than last year.

Russia dominated the FS competition with 5 gold medals ! USA, Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey and Japan won one gold medal each

since you asked me once about the Iranian names :d Sayed (or Seyed) is a title not a part of the name, even though officially part of the name but not in a daily life. something like "Sir" in English. this guy's name is Seyed Abolfazl (or simply Abolfazl) the word Seyed alone is never a given name. (there is a name Saeid different than this word Seyed)

and for the other guy. Ali is his father name. he is just Abbas Foroutan (as you dropped the 2nd part of his surname correctly)

I just found out that Croatia hosted the Junior Worlds in 2014 and they didn't win any medal (but they got a 5th place in Greco-Roman Wrestling...so they got closer than SVK this time round)...

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
    • Oh I’m not done yet, unfortunately. From the names that could be back but are still injured   Courtney Hoffos Mikael Kingsbury (should be back before the Olympics) Connor Howe (he returned, but nowhere close to his best so his injury is still giving him issues) Connor Bedard Meryeta O’Dine Megan Oldham
    • Italy also has its own list, although of course not every injury is as terribile  in terms of medal losses. In winter sports have unfortunately much more injuries than summer sports. In the summer only: cycling, volleyball and football.     - Brignone: will return in January, - Tabanelli: will return for the Olympics, - Bassino: season over, - Marta Rossetti: season over, - Lara Malsinier: season over.
    • TNT staff expect they will offer it at a price similar to what they offering the Winter Olympics for rather than the full TNT price.   But equally the main coverage is apparently going to be very different to what they do for the Olympics (Which is less pundits and studio chat than the BBC) with speculation it might be based on NBC’s Olympic coverage with tons of human interest etc.
    • India Sherret (ski cross)   Another name to the ever-growing list of injuries for the Canadian team… used to be excited for the Olympics, now not so much…
