Also: pros should be able to enter the Olympics if they want to, otherwise it's just a B-competition like the football.

no, because of their nature, pro boxing and Olympic boxing actually are 2 different sports...that's why I'd give this kind of boxing (and only to this kind of boxing) a chance...

This sounds way too idealistic however.

I don't think it's idealistic...it's about extreme measures for an extreme problem (for those who would like to save this sport and, above all, the athletes who train hard to fulfill their dream to take part into the Olympic Games)...

otherwise, if nobody cares about a minimum standard of seriousness in the Olympic boxing competition, just throw them out and go on with the other disciplines...

I think boxing should be replaced with sport climbing

Okay, let me try to understand AIBA's logic.

Rakhimov steps aside for ONE year and then they think IOC will suddenly forget all about the man they described as "One of Uzbekistan's leading criminals", and IOC will say, "You know AIBA, because Rakhimov has been on the side line for one year, you have showed the will to change things. You will keep the rights to organise Olympic boxing".

I don't really understand the logic?

So if Rakhimov is elected we have 3 possibilities on what happens next.

1 - The IOC can back down and let the AIBA carry on as usual. That will make the IOC look very weak and I don't think they can afford to look weak again so soon after their problems with Russia.

2 - They can find another governing body to run Olympic boxing. The rumour is they are talking to one of the professional boxing organizations to run a scaled down tournament in Tokyo, Maybe with about 12 professionals at each weight.

3 - They can just cancel all boxing at Tokyo.

If Rakhimov loses then the AIBA still have big problems but all the big IOC decisions will wait until after 2020.

A professional boxing tournament without letting amateurs at least attempt to qualify is no good either. Also, if AIBA really wants to play hardball there won't be any recognized national federations either (as they risk being sanctioned by AIBA), though I guess they could go the route of having all the boxers compete under the Olympic flag, but I imagine some young boxers may also not want to risk getting banned from future competitions.

Cancel boxing and remove it permanently from the program. Right there we would have enough quotas to add sports at Paris.

    • now the shooting sport takes a little Christmas break and the new season resumes in January with the Asian Championships for the Shotgun specialists ( Doha, Jan. 11th through 22nd)   the World Cup will be back in late March, beginning in  Tangiers (March 25th through April 3rd, Shotgun specialists only)   the Rifle and Pistol specialists will start their new season with the European 10m Championships in  Yerevan (Feb. 27th through March 5th) and the 1st World Cup stage for them will be in  Granada in April (5th through 13th)   300m, 25m and 50m European Champs will be in  Osijek (May 30th through June 21st), meanwhile the Shotgun European Champs will be held in  Athens from Sept. 27th through Oct. 13th

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
