'Formule 1' kind of start tomorrow: the top-20 starts on the front row, and the rest follows in order of the GC standings. Tom Dumoulin is expecting that to mean....absolutely nothing: "None of us, main GC candidates, will want to go hard from the first kilometer, so probably we'll just ride the first few kilometers rather slowly so the rest can catch up" :p

Of course it's still something very different and I am very much looking forward to this potentially highly explosive stage :d

I don't want to be the guy responsible for making sure that every single rider starts at the right place. It shouldn't be much of a problem with the first group but when.

But indeed, it shouldn't make too much difference .

It's just a show, especially as they're trapping the riders in a warmup area for the last half hour meaning that they can't really warm up the way they use to.

Come on, starting positions are barely important for keirin, let alone 65 km road race (even if that's extremely short).

It would only matter if people wanted to make a difference on the first climb (since you'd have to make up quite some ground on a climb, which costs energy), but I'm doubting any GC rider wants to play all their cards on the first of three climbs.
