Short Track Speed Skating ISU World Cup 2021 - 2022

Recommended Posts

5 teams in the semi-final, you need to finish 3rd ou 4th to get to the B final and guarantee a top 8 (and be in a qualifying spot for the Olympics), you're battling for 3rd place but you have a comfortable lead to at least finish 4th. The team in 4th tries to overtake you in the last lap, what do you do :

- let go, you've ensured your qualification ;

- make a block, get DQed.

If you chose the second option then you're probably French :wall:

The judges are completely drunk, evidently there is too much sake in the VAR room. The Netherlands not only had to be penalized, it was a dangerous action from direct YC. Shame on you!

Admittedly, our athletes have raised their level in this sport, especially the girls (Aščić did a great job to advance from the preliminaries as the next fastest skater).

Still, the Olympic qualification will only happen with some Bradbury-esque outcomes.

  • 3 weeks later...

Aurélie Monvoisin, who qualified for her first A final in the 500m suffered a broken shin in the same race :cry: Gutted for her ...

We only have two good women and one of them is now out of the picture :cry:

Why is ISU hiding the World Cup standings in 500/1500 m events? :wacko:

At any rate, Valentina Aščić advanced today and secured top 35 (min 10 points). Probably not enough by itself, but she gave herself a fighting chance for tomorrow... :fingers:

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
