Emmanouil Karalis (Pole Vault)

He is out due to injury, so Greece will not have any pole vaulter (male or female) at the World Indoor Championships for the first time since 2006

We had 3 make the standard this year but none are going. Will be weird to have no Greeks or Poles in the pole vault events for the first time after many years...

Where to watch the World Champs wherever you are in the World. There’s a base livestream on World Athletics YT & Facebook Page, but that will be geo-blocked if there’s a national broadcaster listed.

Great, NOS has the rights. Meaning they'll show a couple of finals on their livestream (which can't be rewatched later) and a few minutes of highlights on TV.

With the Paralympics I noticed my VPN works fine in combination with YouTube, so I have high hopes in being able to watch the World Athletics YT streams after work, when choosing a correct country.

Edit: well shit, that list of countries with broadcast rights is rather big, not sure my VPN offers something from a non-listed country..

Pretty sure Balkans doesn't include us, as Arena Sport doesn't operate here, so you can try that. But i will have to check YT tomorrow to be sure.

There's a list on that link that says the countries (in small font) where it will be geoblocked, and Bulgaria is not listed, so Bulgaria should be good for YT.

But you can get BBC2 & BBC1. can't you?  No worries in that case, think there's only about half an hour the whole weekend that isn't on one or the other.

I do have those, yes, just have to remember to record the broadcasts because broadcasts on non-Dutch channels can't be watched on-demand (here) :p

I also see Austria and Germany for example aren't in the list with broadcasters, so with a VPN from there the YT stream should work, I suppose!

    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
    • December is probably going to be focused on either Italy/Austria or Norway, but the plans are still being made as we speak. Renting a car, driving from the Netherlands down to Italy, finding accomodations and help with preparing the skis and all that...trying to make it as an independent 'solo' athlete is...hard     I can't go and help out, because we got the keys to our house (finally) and there's lots of work to be done there, so it's all happening at the same time and the mind is getting crazy (for both of us)
