Nothing can possibly go wrong for Ehammer now....:d

If Kaul performs anywhere near his normal level, Ehammer still needs absolutely massive PB's left and right to end up getting close :p

Kaul is basically the personification of "don't look at the standings after X events, look at the overall picture", especially before day two starts :d

Too bad I can't find any odds in bookmakers I can play at, maybe they'd make the same mistake as they did with Mayer at the worlds..(with the only caveat to skewer the forecast a little being Kaul's massive javelin)

Boooo for false start DQ's in multi-events.

Meanwhile Kaul had an excellent start of day two and gained a bit on his forecast, whereas Ehammer performed exactly according to the forecast with 13.75 seconds. For now Kaul increases his chances for the win.

Disappointing 34.92m for Ehammer with the discus, letting another 40 points or so go :(

He will need to hope Kaul doesn't go to 45 meters or so, which he has done almost all the time lately.

Arriba Espana! Gold for Miguel Angel Lopez in the men's 35k race walk...

Germany on their way to silver, Italy should end up with bronze...

Karlsson boiled & missing in action...

pretty boring races and hyper-messy organization with men and women on the same circuit at the same time...

This was no advertisement for race walking, sadly.

Commentator saying Linke must be extra happy to win in his favourite event, the 35km.

Somehow I doubt the 35km is actually his favourite event...his favourite existing event, perhaps :(

It must be a dress rehearsal for the fabulous new Olympic format - "Let's stage two individiual races, but award team medals only!"

    • Yep. Not sure if it was the NOC or the biathlon federation (I assume the latter) that put him in the Livigno training 'world' with a former Italian biathlete as coach, but they can definitely also be blamed:  almost everyone involved in that shitshow got the motivation just sucked out of them by the methods and shitty atmosphere until they either retired or changed country

    • Lots of injuries, including often just pure bad-luck stuff like a fall from a set of stairs, illness, and of course the Sochi tragedy in 2014: one of her biathlon friends, young Julia Pieper, killed herself with a biathlon rifle early during the Olympics (she wasn't on the team, but was a training partner of both Preuss and Dahlmeier). Obviously a hard hit, which led to terrible Olympics for Preuss, with a DNF, awful results in her other individual races and a relay where she was the first runner for Germany, but fell early on, got snow in her rifle and broke a pole and ended up losing almost 3 minutes, which in turn resulted in Germany being off the podium for the first time ever.   After that came all the injuries and illness and everything. So glad to finally see her have her big individual global gold, that is so well deserved.
