Question for the :ITA Italian users,

I'm seeing that no Italian met the 400 free standard at the Sette Colli or any of the other qualifying competitions. However, there's 4 guys that have the OQT in the qualification period. Would those spots get filled or will they be left empty? Maybe Ragaini gets one of the spots since he's already qualified for the 200 free?

well, that's a good question...

I have no idea about Ragaini (I fear the coaches want to keep him only for the 200m and the 4*200m relay, not preparing the 400m at all), but I think that De Tullio (who's already sure to make the team because of the 4*200m relay) might get a call also in the 400m

I think at least one of those spots will be used, however

:USA US Olympic Trials: Day 7

Finals:

Men's 50m Freestyle (OQT: 21.96)

1. Caeleb Dressel - 21.41 Q :yikes:

2. Chris Guiliano - 21.69 Q

3. Matt King - 21.70

4. Jack Alexy - 21.76

5. Michael Andrew - 21.81

6. Ryan Held - 21.85

7. Quintin McCarty - 21.97

8. Adam Chaney - 22.08

Dressel is back! Alexy 4th :yikes:. Guiliano becomes the 1st American man since Biondi in 1988 to qualify individually in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle events. He just beats out Matt King by 0.01 seconds. What a meet he's having. With Both Dressel and Guiliano doubling up here, all of the male 2nd place finishers have now officially qualified for the Olympic Team.

Women's 200m Backstroke (OQT: 2:10.39)

1. Regan Smith - 2:05.16 Q

2. Phoebe Bacon - 2:06.27 Q

3. Claire Curzan - 2:06.34

4. Kennedy Noble - 2:07.52

5. Rhyan White - 2:07.64

6. Katie Grimes - 2:07.72

7. Isabelle Stadden - 2:08.77

8. Teagan O'Dell - 2:0.21

Once again, Smith slower than expected. She was noticeably more than a second slower on the last 50m compared to her other splits. Should be a fun showdown in a month between her and McKeown. Curzan finishes 3rd :(. She was in second at the 150m but was passed by Bacon who beat her out by 0.07 seconds. Gutsy swim by Bacon to take the 2nd spot when many didn't predict her to qualify.

Men's 200m Individual Medley (OQT: 1:57.94)

1. Carson Foster - 1:55.65 Q

2. Shaine Casas - 1:55.83 :hyper:

3. Kieran Smith - 1:56.97

4. Chase Kalisz - 1:57.17

5. Owen McDonald - 1:57.51

6. Arsenio Bustos - 1:58.26

7. Grant House - 1:58.35

8. Will Modglin - 1:58.44

Shaine Casas has developed a reputation of not being able to swim in the highest pressure meets but that didn't happen tonight. He delivered the swim of his life here to qualify for his 1st Olympic Team. Really happy for the guy. He had a great celebration after the race and was visibly emotional. For Foster, this marks a new PB for him. With Foster doubling up, Ryan Held was also officially qualified for the Olympic Team after his 5th place finish in the 100m freestyle. His time in that event is at a higher percentage above the OQT than Curry in the 200m freestyle.

Semi-finals:

Advancing to Men's 100m Butterfly Final:

1. Caeleb Dressel - 50.79

2. Dare Rose - 51.11

3. Zach Harting - 51.16

4. Ryan Murphy - 51.43 :yikes:

5. Aiden Hayes - 51.50

6. Luke Miller - 51.53

7. Thomas Heilman - 51.58

8. Kaii Winkler - 51.64

Dressel and Rose look solid. Heilman a bit slower than expected.

Advancing to Women's 200m Individual Medley Final:

1. Kate Douglass - 2:08.53

2. Alex Walsh - 2:08.74

3. Beata Nelson - 2:10.83

4. Leah Hayes - 2:10.93

5. Zoe Dixon - 2:11.64

6. Lucy Bell - 2:12.23

7. Isabel Ivey - 2:12.26

8. Lilla Bognar - 2:12.33

Torri Huske finished 3rd in 2:09.74 but scratched the final to focus on the 50m freestyle. Would be shocking if it wasn't a Douglass and Walsh 1-2.

Doubles count:

Men: 7

IS there any chance that US will take more women (who finished 7th for instance at the relays) now that they have the space?

And if my count is correct, only 10 relay only athletes so far.

I don't think so. All the women in the 200m freestyle final are already on the team. A couple days ago there was a swimoff for 6th place in the 100m freestyle to determine the final spot on the team. This happened when there were already enough swimmers qualified for the team so I don't think DeLoof (who finished 7th) will be going.

I know I've beaten this into the ground on this forum but 53.61 in the 100 free is such a joke qualification time.

We are actually going to get something like 12 qualifiers in this event.

At the very least, World Aquatics should have kept the B standard at 3% of the OQT instead of reducing it to 0.5% of the OQT so that athletes with an A standard in another event could've possibly entered.

So far, Paris 2024 has 150 more men than women qualified. Without equestrian entry lists, this may grow or reduce...

One way out would be to invite more female swimmers with OCT. that would be great!
