Swimming Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

Recommended Posts

An interesting development to keep track of heading into Paris.

Arguably the greatest coach of all time, Bob Bowman (Michael Phelps old coach) has shockingly left his head coaching position at ASU to go to Texas 2 days after winning the NCAA title.

He was coaching college swimmers like :FRA Leon Marchand, :HUN Hubert Kos, :CAN Ilya Kharun, :HUN Zalan Sarkany, and also pros like :USA Regan Smith, :USA Chase Kalisz, :USA Ryan Held, :USA Olivia Smoliga, :USA Simone Manuel, :CAN Taylor Ruck, :USA Paige Madden, :USA Drew Kibler and :USA Jay Litherland are also training at ASU.

I believe the sprinters are lead by the assistant/now head coach so they'll probably be fine but it'll be interesting to see what kind of an effect this move will have on the mid-distance and distance swimmers, especially Marchand.

Texas currently has swimmers like :USA Carson Foster, :USA Luke Hobson and :USA Shaine Casas.

Apparently the ASU swimmers didn't know until today and many are pissed. Not a great season for this kind of upheaval.

Thought it was a swimswam April Fool's joke at first. Think my jaw hit the floor when I saw the editor's note saying it wasn't an April Fool's joke.

Very impressive heat swim from Adam Peaty clocking 58.53. Unlike his other races since his return he looked good the whole way. Now let's see if he can repeat it or better in the final ...

Fastest time in the world this year I think? - although :CHN Qin was sub 58.00 in Berlin last year.

    • Yeah, there's certainly things to complain about from an athletes' perspective, but snow should really not be much of an issue indeed. Mostly things like the enormous geographical spread and it's consequences like there not being one big opening ceremony and everything being spread around a bunch of small Olympic 'villages'/accomodations - so not really the Olympic feeling and atmosphere for the athletes since they'll mostly just stay around athletes of their own sport as in any regular competition.   We'll be going very near to the Olympic area in a few weeks (Coppa Italia in Falcade), let's see what things look like by then.
    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory
    • This is the home town of our very own @heywooduand @brunamoura
    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?
