Surfing Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

Igarashi out of the qualified athletes is a huge surprise. They got a "third quota" at last ISA Games, and the easiest quota, he is not taking it. Also, Huscenot is a big disappointment from France.

If it came down to it, Japan could qualify two athletes at the World Surfing Games. It was clear that the third quota was made for :AUS :BRA :USA so it was kind of funny that a different nation got it.

Good to know. Assuming Defay knows about this requirement, I imagine she's taking a trip to Australia next month regardless of her recovery.

  • 2 weeks later...

So Defay :FRA competed in Bells Beach, and she is up to the quotas.

It still needs official confirmation by WSL/ISA but :FRA:POR:CRC and :BRA got one quota at women's side.

The :AUS and :USA will probably define their representants at Finals.

Is that based off the world tour and do they take up continental places?

Thank god, was hoping the European place was still available - think we have a really good chance of claiming it in both events.

    • Juniors were there recently and the track was awful   Although that's not necessarily bad. Tracks don't all need to be fast, a slow track (like the horribly slow one in Poland) simply favors a different style of athletes. Training a lot there doesn't really give much extra advantage though, not like in sliding sports where of course as host country you make sure your athletes know every single meter a year before the Olympics.    And to get back on topic: speed skater Elisa Dul broke her tibia and fibula in a training fall yesterday and will obviously be out of the OQT and so the Olympics.
    • The PSL race in Davos was (yet another) insult to a beautiful discipline. The red course (which was actually yellow) had several holes and an exposed ice sheet, which made the athletes slide way too long, causing DNFs or massive time losses. The only positive note is that Caffont won despite racing on the more dangerous course in the final
