Till now the African qualification pathway has not been announced

any idea if WCH 2023 would qualify the top athlete from Africa.. or 2024 edition?

I believe no continental championship in Africa

no dates communicated yet

How is the Diving qualification going to manage to stay at the quota of 136?

Synchronised Competitions            64

Continental Quotas                          20

2023 Worlds                                     48

2024 Worlds                                     48

Thats 180 quotas. Obviously Countries like Japan, GB, Mexico will be doubling in spots but that will hardly bring the figure from 180 to 136. Will that mean the 2024 Worlds might only have 4 or 5 nquotas available instead of 12? Its a bit unfair on athletes who finish in top 12 in quota but may not make Paris.

I wouldn't be unduly concerned - in the previous qualification cycles, there have always been at lest 10 quotas available after the first world and continental qualifiers.

There's a good chance that the majority of the continental quotas won't end up being awarded because the continental champion will already have qualified here at Fukuoka and if Wikipedia is to be believed at Tokyo, there were only meant to be 136 quotas but 147 were awarded.

While in theory we could have 180 athletes in practice it will be a lot less. From experience at least half of the synchronized divers will compete in the individual events. Also the 12 quotas at the 2024 Worlds are only awarded to the finalists so nations with already the max quotas (e.g. China) or if the individual already qualified at the 2023 Worlds/Continental Qualifier will not gain any more quotas.

In fact, we will have to go through the "additional divers" route in order to complete the list.

So I was going through the swimming qualification events when I noticed a few unusual entries.

An African Diving qualifier from December 18-20 in :RSA Durban.

An Oceanian Diving qualifier from November 30-December 1 in :AUS Brisbane.

Not sure how accurate these are.

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
