  2. Lots of interesting outcomes from this final. After two previous rounds of difficult low scoring lead the final sees 3 athletes touch the top hold while the highest boulder score accounts for only 2/4 tops. That lead round resulted in Lee Dohyun to take the 50 from Shanghai, putting the South Korean inches from an Olympic quota. Alberto Ginés-Lopez shows us why he’s a rightful Olympic champion with a perfect lead to get silver at the comp. An end to his best performance in the sport since his Tokyo gold medal. Adam Ondra ends up only able to use his high boulder score to get 3rd. On the other hand, rough day for Sam Avezou with a very low boulder score and a complete flop on lead, falling before getting to the first scored hold. Still, 8th is not a bad rank in the tight race for France’s two quotas.
  3. Nations Cup Results Day 1: / 2 - 1 Bello brothers won both of their matches whilst Bialokoz/Batrane lost in a couple of tight set. / 0 - 2 Both matches lost in 3 tight sets. / are up against later this morning.
  4. Sydney gots a lot of media attention as well. She just wasn’t very active for a while due to her injury and her coaching camp likes to keep things on the down low.
  5. On the question of current form - particularly for the long-distance events - I don't think the requirement should necessarily be interpreted that they have to achieve the OQS after April. Both Dever and Keith were 23 seconds outside of the OQS so I'm a bit confused how that would indicate Keith is in form, but Dever isn't. Surely that should mean they've either both done enough to show current form or neither of them have shown current form? When it comes to selection for distance events, I wouldn't look at them in isolation - Dever has the OQS for 5000m so, assuming he finishes inside top-2 at trials will be going to Paris. If he's already going and gets an invite for 10,000m, there would be no reason for UK Athletics to turn it down. Likewise for Warner-Judd, if she is able to get on the squad for the 5000m, she'd be allowed to run the 10 if she gets an invite. The bigger question is whether there will actually be any invites for the 10000m - can't recall if there were any given for Budapest.
  6. Final Men’s Combined Boulder & Lead Shanghai 1.) Lee Dohyun - 34.5/100/134.5 2.) Alberto Ginés-Lopez - 24.5/100/124.5 3.) Adam Ondra - 64.0/60.1/124.1 4.) Paul Jenft - 49.1/64.0/113.1 5.) Sascha Lehmann - 14.3/96.1/110.4 6.) Hannes van Duysen -34.5/60.1/94.6 7.) Hamish McArthur - 48.8/45.1/93.9 8.) Sam Avezou - 9.8/0.0/9.8

  9. 2.04 looks like the cutoff for a medal in Paris for the 200 Fly Summer and Regan Smith lead the way Zhang Yufei has been 2.03 although not since Paris and it would not surprise if Dekkers hits 2.04 by Australian trials.
  10. If the history of the first two oqt’sis respected, Italy will definitely qualify. In both those tournaments the Dutch team beat the qualifying team in the group fase.
  11. I agree about MOC. She swum that 58.0 in pouring rain hitting the ropes all the way. The W100m back seems to be dominated by AUS,USA and a Canadian over the past 2-3 years its possible that 58 low wont even make an Australian or US Olympic team
  12. For some reason the younger generation loves obnoxious attention seekers like SCR and SML is the opposite of that.
  13. MOC's gonna go 57 at trials if she can swim straight. Seebohm doesn't have enough time left to get into that kind of form but she plans to swim on after Paris and she's progressing consistently in the right direction so maybe next year? Anderson might even go faster! Ditto Barclay and Fredericks. Be surprised if Atherton is any quicker than 59 high. She might even be done tbh.
  14. Men's bouldering for the final just finished. Hamish (or Jumpy-B Hamish as @mpjmcevoy would obviously prefer he be known) finished it in 3rd place in a low scoring round with 43.8 and one top. There were only 5 tops total and only Adam Ondra got more than 1. Lead in about 30 mins.
  15. Final men’s and women’s quotas go to Pereira and Cossio. @mrv86
  16. Chef Rubio attacked by you know "who"because he is pro Palestine
  17. Oilers lead 3-1 after the 2nd period. Could’ve been worse though, late in the 2nd period, the Oilers had a two-man advantage for a minute, and then a power-play for another minute, but the Canucks killed it off. Big period coming up for the Canucks.
  18. So round up of GBR athletes of note so far this weekend. These are *far* from the only GBR athletes competing - these were the ones that stood out to me, either as good times or athletes who might be in contention for Paris or Rome this summer: LA 400m - Ohuruogu - 51.67 1500m - Fogg - 3:35.82 800m - Wightman - 1:44.10 (OQT), Botterill 1:45.91, Langford 1:46.18 1500m - Snowden - 4:00.89 (OQT) (last night) 800m - Sharman-Newell - 1:45.5 3000m SC - Bird - 9.32.95 3000m SC - Seddon - 8:20.77 (PB) 5000m - Atkin - 12:54.66 (PB, OQT) 5000m - Nuttall - 14:57.91 (PB) Wetzler 100m - Edoburen - 10.24 (+1.0) 100m - Henry - 11.44 (+1.4) Chorzow 100m - NMB - 10.25 (+0.1) 100m - Lansiquot - 11.24 (-0.1) 200m - NMB - 20.54 (+0.8) Quainoo 20.84 200m - Hunt - 22.85 (0.0) 400m - La Nielsen - 51.47, Pipi 52.77 800m - Baker 2:00.16 1500m - Reekie - 4:02.57 400m H - Li Nielsen - 54.73 (=PB, OQT) Shot - Lincoln - 20.75 Andujar 100m - Efoloko - 10.35 (+0.4), Morgan-Harrison 10.41 800m - G Bell - 1:59.93 (PB) Gotzis Day 1 Pawlett - 3820pts - 13.64 (PB) - 1.71 - 14.39 (PB) - 23.55 (PB) Smith - 3607pts - 13:38 (PB)- 1.77 - 11.89 - 24.39 (PB) Mills - 3216pts - 14.82 - 1.68 - 12.86 - 25.94 Highgate - Night of the 10000m PBs Paddy Dever finished second in 27:23.88. He has the British QT from March but faces an anxious wait to see if he will get a quota spot and, if he did, whether UK Athletics would accept it. Could fall foul of the "current form" criteria, as that indicates athletes have to perform in April-June this year. Will hopefully at least have a place in Rome for the Euros, as could a couple of the guys behind him such as Rory Leonard and Charlie Hicks. On the women's side, no such drama. Megan Keith won the race in 31:03.02. She already had the OQT from March, but this satisfies the 'current form' criteria. So she's on the train to Paris if she wants to be. Jess Warner-Judd behind her has a more anxious wait. She's in a quota spot and has the GBR Q from last year. But, like Dever, might fall foul of the 'current form' stipulation. And breathe....that's enough for today.
  19. Canada defeat Thailand 3-1, adding a further 3.69 points towards their World Ranking. Wasn’t able to watch most of the game (only during the breaks in between NHL periods)
  20. I would say Skateboarding was a hiding to nothing from the moment sky pulled out, and I'm now not officially convinced she'll be fit for the Games. I expect the points she already has in the bag to be sufficient to get her there. I would need to know why Tambling DNS before opining on her, but all is far from lost. I quietly expect two quotas there when all is said and done. Climbing has been very fruitful so far. I fully expected Roberts to be our only entrant, and was happy, frankly, to have him, but Hamish and erin have REALLY stepped up, Molly is not out of it, the rest are a bit stranded. But you'd take Hamish and Erin's position right now, you really would! BMX free went about as well as could be hoped on the men's side. On the women's side, Charlotte has long ceased to be the same athlete that won inaugural gold, and that's ok - she did her post Tokyo job by guaranteeing one slot for the team in Glasgow. Sitting in 11 and 12 means they have work to do in Budapest, but again, all is far from lost. I don't care about the breaking and whether B-Boy Shiny is edging out B-B wax'n'Trim, so goodness knows. Away from Shanghai, It's been a decent day for the Brits (and lesser extent the Irish) Irish first, Sharlene Mawdsley did what she's threeatened for a while, ran a major 400m PB and grabbed the OQT! Meanwhile Rhasidat executd poorly in the 200 in LA and still ran a highly exciting 22.4, beating several big names - the news that neither Syd or Femke are doing 400 in Paris made up for any disappointment. Very good runs from nick Griggs and Eiday. Lowry also showing some great form in valhalla. for GB 3 new tickets were booked in Athletics (Megan Keith is a stormer of a talent), Shotgun (Matthew Colley profiting from Aaron Heading's poor last round) Table Tennis (.quite brilliant run from Anna Hursey) Disappointment in the BMX Racing worlds and some odd form in the European Canoe Slalom, although the work there on qualification is long since complete.
  21. It's almost a shame the US media focus on Richardson instead of McLaughlin who is much more likeable and could actually be the doing things Marion Jones was supposed to do 25 years ago. I do realize SML's somewhat indifferent persona is a nightmare for story-telling TV ratings.
  22. Tara Davis-Woodhall with a HUGE WL of 7.17m in women’s long jump at the Atlanta Track Classic! Assuming she can stay healthy, she’s winning Olympic gold this year.
  23. In the face of biden US interior department staffer is first Jewish Biden appointee to resign over war in Gaza https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/may/15/us-interior-department-staffer-resigns-gaza
  24. Nils Hoglander with his first goal of the playoffs as the Canucks tie the game at 1-1 with 9:57 left to go in the 1st period!!
