Iranian team of Raoufi/Salemi won the Asian Championship today in Thailand ! that was a big surprise since they were 15th seed before the event !

Does anybody know what's the tiebreaking criteria in beach volleyball ? I assumed it's the same as indoor volleyball but I was wrong

look at Pool A here

http://asianvolleyball.net/2017-avc-beach-volleyball-championships-men-schedule-results/

the Iranian team who eventually won the competition should be eliminated in 1st round if set ratio was the tie breaker, is this point ratio ? or only points ratio between tied teams ?

Are there no pools in FIVB events anymore or is their website just really messed up now that they changed it? I can't find pool standings anywhere, including the 'pool standings' tab. All it does is show results of the 'round of 32' but that's not all teams, because even when looking at those results + qualifying, several teams that are listed in the 'teams' tab are just missing.

It seems this is a direct elimination tournament

BOARD DISCUSSES OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION PROCESS FOR TOKYO 2020

Beach volleyball qualification process
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will include a total of 24 teams per gender. Qualification places are allocated to national federations and not teams, with each national federation allowed to have a maximum of two teams representing them per gender.

As hosts, Japan are guaranteed one qualification berth per gender.

The World Olympic Qualification tournament will provide two places to the Olympic Games, and the 16 teams participating in this tournament will be based on the World Tour ranking as of December 31, 2018.  One place will be made available to the winning country of the 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships.

The 15 highest ranked teams on the Olympic Ranking List will each earn one quota place for their national federation to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, with the remaining five places will be given to the national federations that win the Continental Cup Finals.

Volleyball and beach volleyball at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo

Tokyo sees the Olympic Games return there after they were first hosted in the Japanese capital in 1964. For volleyball there is special significance and emotion, as it was in Tokyo 1964 that the sport was first officially introduced to the Olympic Programme.

The Games of the XXXII Olympiad will begin on Friday, July 24 with the opening ceremony and wrap up on Sunday, August 9 when the Olympic flame will be extinguished and the Olympic flag handed over to the organisers of the 2024 Games. Both the opening and the closing ceremonies will be held at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, which is undergoing an extensive facelift for the event.

The men's and women's volleyball tournaments will be held at the to-be-built Ariake Arena, designed for 12,000 spectators, on area reclaimed from the sea. The Ariake area will also host cycling, gymnastics and tennis at Tokyo 2020.

My favourite Volleyball position: LIBERO. You ask why? Look here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyIOarNAONk

Apparently Croatian national team football player Ivan Perišić will take part in the Major Series stage in Poreč later this month (FIVB approved it).

Well, that just goes to show how strong our beach volleyball is. Poreč has been host to this for like 2-3 years, but there hasn't been any improvement in our beach volleyball.

I'm confused, do teams nowadays only play two matches in a group of 4 teams? In The Hague it most definitely seems like the play-offs in the women's tournament are starting, even though every team only played 2 group matches yet..

Surely that can't be right?

I’m interested to see who Fonseca draws as a Q, that’ll be a matchup players want to avoid.
