Ineos team named.  Adam Yates will be the leader.  Tom Pidcock will be snubbing the European Mountain Bike Champs :p, which will be left for the usual tiny group of cultists.

Judging by the starters named so far, one would imagine Roglic being the main favourite for the win, with a big host of possible challengers at least for the podium positions (if not more):

- INEOS duo Bernal/Carapaz, if they fail there could be a Yates if he's found some better form and if that doesn't work out neither there's still Sivakov

- Carthy (and in his shadow, Uran) for EF Education

- Landa, and considering Bahrain's insane year so far I wouldn't even count out Padun and definitely not Haig

- MAL and Mas for Movistar, and Valverde somehow? Who knows, it's Movistar

- Vlasov for Astana, Ciccone with Trek, who knows even DSM with Bardet

- Kuss if it doesn't work out for Roglic

It could be a very interesting Vuelta :cheer:

And then it's Rein Taaramae of all people taking the spoils :p

Today it's a sprint, which according to the official profile will be a final uphil kilometer, but in reality will be maybe 300m of a slight upwards trajectory but nothing too special, and so fine for normal sprinters.

Way to go Cort after a way too long break from Danish World Tour wins! :p

And this was a really cool one! I honestly did not expect him to win when the main pack was only half a minute behind at the bottom :yikes:

I see that Movistar are going with the great old tactic of having 5 leaders again . Valverde said pre-race, that at his age, he is there for support only. Sure you are Alejandro, sure :d

Damn, nasty nasty fall from Valverde in one of the descents. Seems to be very lucky he stopped sliding in time, otherwise he could have taken a deep tumble downwards, while now he was at least able to climb up (with the help of Rojas) after catching his breath a bit.

That right shoulder is gonna be the main issue, seems like a collarbone injury.

    • The men's tournament still hasn't had a single game without a goal difference of 10 or more in favor of the winner. The women's tournament has also started.   WEDNESDAY 14 JANUARY   Men   Netherlands-Finland 0-16 (0-7)   Norway-Sweden 1-12 (0-6)   USA-Hungary 10-0 (4-0)   Women   Finland-Sweden 0-8 (0-5)   Norway-USA 4-1 (1-1)
    • Yeah,I said before Xmas that when the  women lose a superstar someone always comes through who responds to the best coaches & slowly gains the confidence to win the big races.  Looks like she has arrived just in time
    • Now I looked at the results and I was very happy that Italy was 2nd, but when I saw Lisa's last split on skis, I was a bit worried
    • 2nd place for Italy is great, but I'm worried about Lisa's weak run on skies in the last stage, and without a fast run there will be no individual medals in Cortina In normal form, Vittozzi shouldn't lose more than 10 seconds to the Norwegian on the last split from the shooting range to the finish line. Perhaps Lisa has had some hard training - she missed the stage in Oberhot and that's why her form in the run on skies is a bit weaker?
    • First of all in: Big Air, Slopestyle etc. are disciplines where judges decide the results 100% and this is bad. The average person, when they turn it on during the Olympics, has no idea why someone is 1st or 3rd, but when he turn on alpine snowboarding, he see who finished 1st and who 2nd.
    • got a 2 min penalty for no tag at the exchange
    • I wish our TV had such a good reason to show SB too
    • On the other hand, why bother with snowboardcross, which only has 1 or 2 World Cup appearances in a single season before OG, due to a lack of sufficient route? For me, it's also a dead sport, just like Nordic combined has been for some time now, with many World Cup races being canceled. For today, I would prefer team competitions in alpine snowboarding to snowboardcross, if only because in this first there are regular World Cup competitions every 1-2 weeks, and not 1-2 for the entire season.
    • not anymore...   now Czech TV shows mainly alpine SB because of Ledecka and now also the young rising star Maderova
    • I understand )) It is a shame that these reallocations in FIS disciplines may happen too late.   As far as I know FIL had consultations wirth the IOC and quickly removed 3 incorrect AIN`s after that. I do not know if FIS did the same but it looks like they did not. Since we see a lot of AIN statuses for people who do not meet the requirements. Thus some reallocations may come only after the AINERP review. I can say nothing on Zueva right now. She is not cleared by the IOC yet, by the way. But Belorussians (or at least rrepresenting Belarus now) behave lin different way. Russians on the other hand prefer to show loyoalty to the regime since it provide them with substential benefits and positions in local administrations and parliaments.
