  3. First stage voting deadline is friday, December 30th. To vote, just follow the instructions here
  4. There isn't a category for mixed teams, as they are very few (and sometimes only "made up" for a competition). Individual athletes are eligible, though.
  5. Baseball is not currently Olympic anymore, same for Karate.
  6. All swimmers are eligible for the main categories, unless they're finswimmers
  7. I don't know much about the Boxing situation, but if an athlete can't compete at the Olympics, he can be considered for the non-Olympic category. This also should include athletes that exclusively compete in events that aren't part of the Olympic programme, like those who can compete only at the World Games etc.
  8. For rugby players, yes (non-Olympic). For boxers it's a little tricky since professionals can compete at the Olympics, even though most of them won't. Since it's allowed, I think they should be up for the main category.
  9. I have added the best Doubles/Pair category. Some contenders include: Matthew Ebden/Max Purcell (Tennis) Thanasi Kokkinakis/Nick Kyrgios (Tennis) Duda/Ana Patrícia (Beach Volleyball) Chen Yuxi/Quan Hongchan (Diving) Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan (Badminton) Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong (Badminton) Sui Wenjing/Han Cong (Figure Skating) Xu Shixiao/Sun Mengya (Canoeing) Barbora Krejčíková/Kateřina Siniaková (Tennis) Caroline Garcia/Kristina Mladenovic (Tennis) Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron (Figure Skating) Hugo Boucheron/Matthieu Androdias (Rowing) Francesco Friedrich/Thorsten Margis (Bobsleigh) Laura Nolte/Deborah Levi (Bobsleigh) Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (Luge) Alfie Hewett/Gordon Reid (Wheelchair Tennis Bence Nádas/Bálint Kopasz (Canoeing) Stefania Constantini/Amos Mosaner (Curling) Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik (Badminton) Diede de Groot/Aniek van Koot (Wheelchair Tennis) Anders Mol/Christian Sørum (Beach Volleyball) Karolina Naja/Anna Puławska (Canoeing) Ancuța Bodnar/Simona Radiș (Rowing) Marius Cozmiuc/Sergiu Bejan (Rowing) Cayetano García/Pablo Martínez (Canoeing) Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury (Tennis)
  10. Maybe we should try the "Pair/Doubles" category since I can see a lot of sports with such candidates (like Skating, Curling, Sailing, Beach Volleyball, Tennis and all racquet spots). If we merge all the categories, probably none of them will be nominated. This, of course, excludes mixed teams, but I don't think any of them would be nominated either way
  11. Maybe we should have a "doubles/pair" or "mixed team" category? I forgot about the mixed thing that usually comes up in Winter Olympics years thanks to the skating pairs - Papadakis/Cizeron and Sui Wenjing/Han Cong would be up for an award for finally getting the Olympic title.
  12. I think the World Cup will dominate the "moment of the year" category. It just happened so it will be easier to remember.
  13. For one minute I was confused, since firstly I linked the name to the dutch
  14. I feel like people would vote for these in "Sport Moment" of the year. I remember that the 7x1 match in 2014 won the award, and that moment was kinda surprising (not the defeat, obviously, but how hard Germany trashed Brazil).
  15. I think it's clear for most categories, including Youth Athlete (18 or under). The only question is that some youth athletes can also be considered for the Breakthrough category. I agree about Gymnastics, although today we see "older" getting the spotlight (Andrade, Black, Jones, Carey are all over 20), even though Gadirova would fall in the youth category. Women's skateboarding also have a lot of younger athletes at the top level.
  16. Sometimes is hard to categorize because some people would fit both categories, but maybe a good criteria would be to vote for people above 19 years old for Breakthrough (which also allows teams), and leave the 18 or younger to the Youth category? But anyone can have their own criteria.
  17. For Evenepoel, I assume this was his best year yet? So that's kinda what the category is meant for. As for best youth athlete, I would vote for talents that show the greatest potential for a successful carreer. But if things are to confunsing, maybe we could leave only the Breakthrough category and delete the Youth award. Football should be considered Olympic, no matter what age.
  18. Hello, everybody! I thought that maybe it was a good idea to bring back the Totallympics Awards. For those who don't remember (or weren't here), these awards were presented in 2014 and 2015 in the old forum and celebrate the best of the year in sports. As I don't have those records, the 2022 edition can now be considered the first? Anyway, I hope many of you have interest in participate (I will be adding the voters names in the second post). It's allowed to campaign in this thread for your favourites. Suggestions are always welcome especially in "tricky" categories like Breakthrough, Youth Athlete, Sport Moment of the Year, and the Olympic Spirit award.
  19. SECOND STAGE OF VOTING Voting for the 2022 Totallympics Awards winners is open (click the image above). All Totallympics members can vote, including those who didn't vote in the first stage. For each category, you can rank a maximum of three nominees of your preference, following the order: #1 (20 points) #2 (10 points) #3 (5 points) You don't have to rank 3 nominees. You can rank 2 or simply pick only one (20 points) per category; You don't have to vote in all categories, only the ones you want. Votes can be edited until the deadline. Voters have until Friday, January 6th to vote. Please contact me if you have any questions.

  21. Hi, Totallympics' members! Welcome to the Totallympics Awards, a celebration of the year in sports. We invite you to take part in the voting process that will elect the best in sports from 2022 in multiple categories – including the two big prizes for Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete. Which better place than Totallympics, the Home of Olympic Sports, to recognize your favorites athletes and teams? For the returning edition of the award, we hope to count with voters from as many nations as possible. If you want to participate, please follow the instructions in the third post of this thread. You are allowed to make comments and suggestions of your personal preferences in this thread. Below, we explain the categories and voting process in details. Categories Best Male Athlete Best Female Athlete Best Non-Olympic Athlete Best Paralympic Athlete Best Youth Athlete Best Men's Team Best Women's Team Best Doubles or Pair Breakthrough of the Year Sport Moment of the Year Olympic Spirit Award Special Awards Totallympics' Stars Award Lifetime Achievement Award The Totallympics Awards will consist of 11 categories (each with 6 nominees) and two special awards. The top categories are Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete, in which voters will recognize the best athletes of the year in Olympic sports only (Summer or Winter). Such restriction applies only to these categories. Athletes that participate in sports outside of the Olympic Games will be up for the Non-Olympic Athlete award – a category that will combine male and female athletes, as well for all other individual categories. The Paralympic Athlete award will acknowledge the outstanding names that highlighted the Paralympic movement in 2022. The Breakthrough of the Year is a category for the most improved athlete/team of the year, while younger athletes will be up for Best Youth Athlete, a category for the talents up to 18 years old – to be eligible, an athlete must have been born after 1 January 2004. Although athletes of Team sports can be nominated for all the individual awards, they will also be in the running for two other categories: Best Men's Team and Best Women's Team. As the name suggests, national teams or groups (of three people or more) can be nominated in these categories, in both Olympic and Non-Olympic sports, Paralympic sports included. Sportspeople competing in 2-athlete events will be up for the Best Doubles or Pair award. The Sport Moment of the Year award will bring the moments that thrilled sports fans in 2022, while the Olympic Spirit Award is a category for people related to the 2022 Winter Olympics or Paralympics and will be given to the individuals who exemplify the spirit of sportsmanship in the Games or showed great determination in overcoming obstacles. As for the special categories, the Totallympics' Stars award will celebrate the forum members, while the Lifetime Achievement will recognize retired sport personalities that have made a contribution to sports world. Both awards won't have a list of nominees, only winners. Voting System FIRST STAGE OF VOTING The first stage of voting will happen from Thursday, December 22nd to Friday, December 30th. Voters will choose, in order of preference, a minimum of 3 athletes or teams and a maximum of 6 for each category in which they decide to vote – with the exception of Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete, voters can decide if they will vote in other categories or not. In this stage, voters are allowed to choose athletes/teams from their own nation, however, out of the 6 possible choices, voters are only allowed to vote for 1 athlete or team of their own nation per category. In each category, votes (in order of preference) will be converted into points, following the system explained below: After the points are counted, the top 6 with most points in each category will advance for the second stage. A tiebreaker will be used when there's a tie in points for the 6th spot, prevailing the number of votes each one received, and then the number of #1 votes. If the tie persists, a random draw will be conducted to determine the final nominee. The nominees list for the Totallympics Awards will be announced Sunday, January 1st, 2023. SECOND STAGE OF VOTING The second stage of voting will happen from Sunday, January 1st to Friday, January 6th. Voters will rank a maximum of 3 favourite nominees in each category, but they also can make a single choice per category. As in the first stage, votes will be converted into points, but this time around a little bit differently, as seen below: After the voting process is over, the nominees with most points in each category will become winners of 2022 Totallympics Awards. Like in first stage, a tiebreaker will be necessary when two or more nominees have the same number of points, prevailing the number of votes, and then the number of #1 votes. If the tie persists, results of first stage will be considered. Along with the Totallympics' Stars and the Lifetime Achievement awards, they will be announced in a live ceremony Sunday, January 8th, which will bring together Totallympics' users in a celebration of the year in sports.
