  1. Happy Valentine's Day for those who celebrate. In related news, brazilian Table Tennis stars Calderano and Takahashi just announced they're dating.
  2. It's bad but in the end I don't think it would have made a difference? Anyway, kinda sad that probably won't qualify when one of and will
  3. will refuse both ILCA quotas achieved by Gabriela Kidd and Bruno Fontes for not meeting the technical criteria (top 16 in Worlds in the Olympic cycle). The Nacra17 team is also at risk, despite placing 17th at the 2022 Worlds. They will have one last chance at the coming Princesa Sofia regatta.
  4. will replace . Apparently, a Paralympics qualifying tournament needs to have at least 4 participating teams, and the women's African championships had 3.
  5. Sitting Volleyball African Championships quotas Men's: Women's: As Egypt was the winner here, gets the World Cup quota as the best non-qualified men's team.
  6. Gabriel Ohnmacht, one of our first athletes to compete in Speed Skating, died at the age of 23.
  7. There's this one: 1. (a) All songs must be ORIGINAL, NEW MATERIAL, released on or after January 1st, 2023. Exceptions will be made in the following circumstances: (i) A song released as a single no more than 6 months before the cut-off date may ONLY be chosen if that song was subsequently released on an album for the first time during the official period of eligibility. For example, a song which was released as a single on July 1st, 2022 may be chosen if that song was later included in an album released on January 1st, 2023 or thereafter. But if the album was also released in 2022, the song can't be eligible.
  8. Something worth mentioning is that the winning song "Tattoo" became a HUGE hit in Brazil... not the song itself, but a Portuguese version by singer Manu Bahtidão. Her music genre is a mix of sertanejo (Brazilian country) and tecno-brega (popular style from the North - "brega" literally translates to "corny"), so not really what I usually listen to, but her achievements caught my attention: more than 250 million combined views on YouTube, 100 million streams on Spotify and #1 on the Brazilian Billboard Hot 100 chart. I don't know if Loreen has even heard the song, but at least she's credited as a songwriter so she must be making some money.
  9. I don't really know the players but I'm surprised by how terrible and are doing.
  10. Agreed. Monster and Perfect Days are both among my favorite movies this year and I haven't even seen The Boy and The Heron and Godzilla Minus One yet. Sadly, in the end I think Japan might even miss the nomination for best International Feature.
  11. Final rankings show finished in 4th.
  12. I'm quite late, but I was sad to hear of the passing of Sara Tavares, Portugal's representative at Eurovision in 1994 (one of my favorite performances ever).
  13. Nice to see South American nations sending a good number of athletes. Maybe it's unlikely, but I hope one of them can repeat Colombia's feat in 2020 and win a medal.
  14. We'll, at least this isn't the Oscars, where a film usually wins a lot. Just like last year, all 10 competitive categories had a different nation as a winner ("Moment of the Year" doesn't count for medal table, but if it did would have 2 wins).
  15. The year in sports brought a lot of joy and emotional moments to Totallympics members around the world. As we say goodbye to our annual awards, here's hope that 2024 can also be a memorable year for all sports fans, as we eagerly wait for the next Olympic Games. For now, we'll remember the moments that brought us together in 2023, presenting this edition's theme song: "Fight Song", by American singer and songwriter Rachel Platten. Thank you all! Have a great year and until the next Totallympics Awards!
