From usually well infromed sources the different national hockey federations were already informed about the Men tournament qualification format for Milano/Cortina 2026. Same format will be played as the Vancouver, Sochi, PyeongChang and Beijing tournaments. 12 teams tournament, 8 qualified directly via IIHF ranking after next year 2023 World Championships, 1 automatical host quota for Bella Italia and 3 will advance from 4 rounds qualification Tournaments, with 9th, 10th and 11th ranked IIHF 2023 country hosting the final qualification tournaments. The final IIHF world ranking will be counted the usual way: Last 4 WChs and last Olympic Tournament will be counted, with the 2023 WCh having 100% counts, 2022 WCh 75%, WCh 2021 50% and WCh 2020 (since was not played due pandemic the 2019 will be used instead) 25% and The last Olympics have 100% counting value. 1) Well, quite a mixed feelings from our performances, in one side the best winter Olympics in the history since the independence in other very poor results of the majority of our athletes in Beijing. 2) Better than expected for sure. 3) Highlight Ice Hockey Madness and the Slaf show Ups a) Petra Vlhová amazing mental strength and fighting in that Slalom 2nd run. b) Paja Fialková 10th in Pursuit and another top 15 in Sprint, c) her sister Ivona with very good skiing. d) Viki čerňanská very solid effort in Monobob from the youngest athlete in the field e) Special mention: Klaudia Medlová despite injury before the Slopestyle showed incredible fighting spirit and respect to the Olympics by her desire to start at the Games at least in Big Air where she risked maybe the end of her career but still was exremely close to qualify for the final Downs: a) Mens Biathlon - all 4 slow, miserable shooting, piss poor performances, overall complete embarassement not worthy of the Olympics (the top of the cake was not qualifying anyone to the pursuit in a reduced Olympic field is just utter embarassement) b) womens cross-country skiing, useless to say anything here, was complete misery c) but the biggest disappointement of the games was the luge doubles Vaverčák/Zmij fucking up the Luge relay to the whole team some 10 meters from the finish line and throwing away a possible top 10 maybe top 8 and consequently money help for their teammates. 4) and now for the most emotional, most positive and most of the most thing of the games for me, my neighbors, my countrymen, my nation ... I guess it is useless to write her what that ice hockey medal (first ever team sport medal btw...) means for us. Well, I must admit China organized good games considering the circumstances we are living in. They sarted with quite huge worries how it will end especially because of covid, but as the days passed, the cases almost dropped to the absolute minimum. Maybe there were a lack of "olympic atosphere" but again considering the circumstances the organizers made quite great job. Chapeau bas to China for this. For SVK was great games, 2 medals a first ever alpine skiing medal and gold so deserved for Petra Vlhová after what she did and is doing in last seasons. and obviously the medal of medals which happened yesterday (the best day of slovak sport history for sure) but ok let move forward and Already looking forward to Italia 2026
