  1. leading after the first quarter in women’s basketball. I’m honestly torn between watching and not watching
  2. I think qualification still has some advantages on the logistics and psychological side, but yeah, it’s essentially an open competition since the revisions last year.
  3. Boxing’s problem is the lack of objective scoring criteria. Fencing, taekwondo, judo, karate, etc. are all miles ahead in that space. Referees and judges can look at a situation and award points for a specific action, instead of an overall impression. While there might be debates about what should score/not score, how many points a move should be worth, etc., objective scoring systems add a lot of legitimacy and structure to bouts.
  4. Taekwondo should really be a roadmap for other federations. They created objective scoring criteria, embraced technology, instituted a great video replay rule, became a leader in international outreach, and created highly entertaining product at end of the day. I consistently look forward to watching taekwondo at every multi-sport games.
  5. Lamar Taylor wins his NOCs first medal of the Games…and it’s gold in the men’s 50m backstroke!
  6. Romano breaks the Games Record in the 200m and 400m IM
  7. I think they have a large enough buffer for the team technical (and maybe highlight if that also counts) to be okay.
  8. swept the gold medals in modern pentathlon, making them the second NOC to do so across a single sport at the Games.
  9. They’ve been live-streaming to a Facebook page, but no graphics or even formal results available elsewhere
  10. Yeah, it was added to the results system late. Glad to see there were enough entries in this discipline at least.
  11. in canoe slalom. has had good results in trap here and there. with a possible outside shot in teqball maybe.
  12. Boxing quotas from the CAC Games: Men’s 51kg - Men’s 57kg - Men’s 63.5kg - Men’s 71kg - / v. Men’s 80kg - Men’s 92kg - / v. Men’s 92+kg - / v. Women’s 50kg - / v. Women’s 54kg - Women’s 57kg - Women’s 60kg - / v. Women’s 66kg - Women’s 75kg -
  13. It was streamed on here yesterday: https://centrocaribesports.org/ccs-channel/ I don’t know if that’s available in Europe though… Eventing was broadcast as well, including the cross country portion, which was a nice surprise to me.
  14. 2022 World Games champion Acuña eliminated in the semifinals of men’s singles in racquetball. All scheduled for tomorrow @mrv86
  15. Yeah, it would have been “crazy talk” to say they’d win a gymnastics all-around gold medal just a few years ago.
  16. have to play back-to-back games in baseball today because of the rescheduling. It’s going to be a long day for those players.
  17. Yeah, I was thinking about getting into Wikipedia editing a while back, and then I looked at the multi-sport games and Olympic projects, and gave that a hard pass. I’d love to converse with those people, like I do with y’all on here, but I’m not trying to get into the quagmire of editing debates and rules.
  18. Just to clear up my response to that question, it was more a general joke about the IOC than anything to do with the current conversation
  19. I think they don’t for a variety of reasons and concerns. My guess is that they’re worried about looking inept or incapable of organizing a sport they willingly took over for starters. I’m not saying they would if they were to punish biased judges and referees, but I think that concern exists for them. I would also imagine they want to maintain a good relationship with boxing judges and referees, so they have people willing to staff tournaments. A boycott, strike, etc. by referees and judges could really complicate things. I’m sure there’s a dozen other concerns like those too.
  20. Teqball works a little better with pairs in my opinion. FITEQ sponsored ATR while I was working there, so I probably have more exposure to the sport and athletes than most. I think a good pairs match entertaining enough. The sport still seems a bit odd to me as well.
  21. Healey makes it 1-1 for Great Britain in gold medal matches this morning. She had a great round of shooting.
  22. 0-2 in quota matches at the European Games. They might really rue these losses if they have to boycott world championships and other events.
  23. Roner winning gold in women’s compound is a bit of a surprise. Gibson couldn’t find the ten ring in those last two sets though.
