  1. I can definitely see the downside of having too many parties represented in European nations, but as someone whose lived under the infamous two party system, I do envy the level of political representation in that case.
  2. They could try to remedy those “dead” votes by reallocating them to the voters next party of choice. They’d have to change the law to allow ranked-choice voting though.
  3. Progressive Slovakia way off those numbers according to Reuters and AP. It’s looking more like another populist victory …So Slovakians basically looked at the current GOP (to draw parallels to the US), and thought, “I want that.” How unfortunate.
  4. Oh right, I forgot about that. It’s free when you pay for admission to the stadium, so as a package deal, it’s worth it. They do have a complete/near complete set of official posters and torches, which isn’t super common. The gift shop is still selling some Athens 2004 merchandise
  5. I voted from a community hall at my local skatepark/public pool during the 2022 General Election. In other elections, I voted at a local nature preserve and a public library.
  6. USOPC opened a museum in Colorado Springs. I haven’t been yet, but the reviews I read were pretty good. Park City has a nice museum at the Olympic Center, right above the bobsleigh track. It mostly has stuff from the 2002 Winter Olympics. Vancouver and Palisades Tahoe have some ones celebrating their editions as well. I don’t remember much about either.
  7. Elon Musk publicizing a post calling support of the AfD in German elections
  8. Oh, Lithuanian infighting
  9. Still technically part of the US, so not sure that plan will work.
  10. IPC General Assembly voted to impose a partial suspension on the Russian Federation. They can’t keep in team events, nor will athletes compete as representatives of the country. Notably, the vote to re-impose a full suspension of membership only failed by about 10-11 votes. 60+ countries voted in favor, which is higher than I would have guessed. Definitely still a lot of anger with Russia for disrupting the Paralympics, doping, and waging war on Ukraine.
  11. Flame lighting ceremony is underway
  12. @hckošice all of those are unavailable in
  13. @hckošice video is unavailable in the host country
  14. Probably got distracted looking at some horses.
  15. Finished watching all the skateboarding events. definitely making noticeable headway in the sport. Both venues were a high standard too, so they just need to improve institutional knowledge of the sport. Overall, I’d say the level of the competition was encouraging, although it’d be nice to see some more entries.
  16. It’s more an attitude problem that point. It’s not like these federations are anymore cashed strapped than those sending teams to Santiago. The Games just don’t really seem to mean much to Canada and the United States (outside of Olympic qualification). It would be nice they’d at give athletes the option to self-fund trips to qualification events and the Games themselves.
  17. Must have to do with the proximity to OQT? really don’t want to send teams to Santiago
  18. I was wondering if you could create Estonian/Latvian duplicates of yourself You were accidentally CC’d on the above. Apologies.

  20. …and tack on a few more months of waiting in the Valieva case.
  21. AAF for : https://ocasia.org/news/4360-ita-notifies-afghan-boxer-mohammad-khaibar-nooristani-of-apparent-anti-doping-rule-violation-at-hangzhou-asian-games.html
  22. Yeah, a bit disappointing in that regard, but I do feel like the quality of athletes is good. I don’t want to get my hopes up too much, but a medal doesn’t seem impossible.
  23. Darn, two would have been better than one in fencing. Any idea who will get the reallocation? The delegation will be noticeably smaller without the basketball teams. Do you which sports they’ll compete in?
  24. Reminds me of this: https://youtu.be/sUjgKeO7YtQ?si=SU7lLmoK4hd0Hshc
