rafalgorka reacted to mpjmcevoy in Russia-Ukraine Crisis Consequences in Sports
That's not the worry.
The fear isn't, and never was, Moscow 1980 or Los Angeles 1984 for anyone but Bach and his own personal gripes.
The fear is Munich 1972.
A couple of hotheads who think they can strike a blow for freedom if they attack some judoku or gymnast aligned to the Russian Army club coming out of the cantina.
Put it this way. I would REALLY not be comfortable sharing a tower block in Paris with AIN athletes. I don't like the odds.

spoiler, and athletes have alredy faced athletes in Wrestling and Judo this year...and nothing really unfair happened both on and off the mat
the only shameful episode was the Kharlan case at the Fencing Worlds last Summer...and it was just a political farce fixed in a couple of days after the social media shitstorm that hit FIE for being senselessly pro-Russian, nothing remarkable actually happened on the piste

This is the best one-liner here this year. And we are in an early December.

Yeah, I agree that doping effects are probably way better (and thus worse) than lack of competition.

Oh mine is definitely not going to be a problem neither It's just an administrative thing, the system isn't open yet or something, but that'll be solved within a few weeks

His Granddad isn't exactly liked nowadays anyway,He is probably even less so.He's literally a walking joke to everyone, including the president, who has mocked him like ten million times now,he's irreverent, the end.

They won't care but they should care.

There will be a “boycott” in the sense that we only send a low-ranking official to the Opening Ceremony, but the Team will go.

Any nation besides Ukraine won't boycot unless maybe when Ukraine asks them. And even then it is only maybe at best.
What I think is most problematic is that many of these Russian athletes could have doped themselves to hell and back the last years because there was no regulation whatsoever. Really helps in training. On the other hand, missing relevant international competition really sets back, so maybe it evens out.

Apparently the Tokyo Olympics never happened either. Or else your predictions were completely and utterly trash …..

Also, Bach falling for Russian propaganda is even less surprising than when I went out in the rain and ended up wet.
