  1. Huh, three quarterfinals where the top-4 qualifies apparently makes 12 riders, not 9. I blame a lack of sleep!
  2. Now we'll get a repechage heat where 4 out of 5 will qualify, as if the keirin repechages weren't a tad too much already.
  3. Lee Wai Sze bowling opponents out of the race Edit: 'bowling' is a bit exaggerated, but her movements - for the whole race basically - did start the whole mess. Besides all that, Marchant being the 100% victim here
  4. True as those two statements may be in a separate environment, it does indeed show his lack of general knowledge about the event
  5. Only among people who have no clue about athletics and sports in general. I'd say she can safely ignore those people..
  6. Because usually the gaps are quite significant, like is the case for gold/silver now. Not for bronze, at all.
  7. Belgian commentator assumed it was a blown tyre If that's the sound of blown tyres, count me out of ever going to a track cycling event
  8. Rio 2016 format was quite alright though. It is presented as a sort of allround event, and it is the complete opposite of that. We don't need four peloton events, there should be some individual stuff and some sprint stuff as well. Individual sprint event (like the 1km time trial) Individual endurance event (like the IP) Peloton sprint event (keirin is too dangerous, so let's say elimination race) Peloton endurance event (points race) That already would be better than: 1. Peloton endurance event 2. Peloton endurance event with a few sort-of sprints 3. Peloton endurance event with more sort-of sprints 4. Peloton endurance event
  9. It's nonsense that they mean absolutely nothing. It means enough to say that Vetter is very unlikely to beat Thiam, whereas if Vidts was in Vetter's position, you could definitely expect a hard fight for gold. Barely anybody is suddenly going to break their PB by 5+ seconds.
  10. No, but it's an interesting stat nonetheless
  11. Right, the omnium has been absolutely beheaded in the past few years and is now just another endurance party which is the complete opposite of what the word 'omnium' suggests, but alright. Going to watch anyway, of course
  12. Athlete Current points 800m difference 800m PB Thiam 5912 2:15,24 Vetter 5848 +4,3 2:17,71 Williams 5642 +18,7 2:15,31 Oosterwegel 5641 +18,7 2:12,68 Vidts 5592 +22,1 2:09,34 Kunz 5540 +25,3 2:14,90 Schäfer 5524 +26,3 2:14,10 Plus or minus 2-3 tenths here and there because the exact differences also depend on simply how fast the times are instead of the differences in seconds. Also keeping in mind Williams doesn't seem to be in great shape, Oosterwegel is excellent and especially Vidts has been improving left and right and seems to be in fantastic running shape. Definitely my main pick for bronze.
  13. Mayer needs to get close to 6 meters to have any remote chance left with a normal javelin and 1500m from Warner
  14. Vetter doesn't improve, 51 is a little disappointing to say the least. Still, silver should be very much within reach, whereas gold is for Thiam if she doesn't get injured or - heavens forbid - pulled out due to her coach's positive test.
  15. 54,60 for Oosterwegel! Based on 2:13 for her and 2:09 for Vidts, they are as good as tied and it'll be about who breaks their PB with the biggest margin
  16. Right, but this is where @Olympian1010 is right: this was not choking. Sure, he had a better attempt earlier, but he basically performed at his best level bar 5cm.
  17. Thiam's coach tested positive....let's hope with all there is to hope for that it won't mean trouble for her
  18. How is he choking? Only 5cm below his PB and a 20cm increase on his best ever decathlon, he is doing the opposite of choking basically
  19. It is sort of laughable by the way. Pretending to be all modern with little remote controlled cars to bring back the stuff athletes throw as far as possible, but at the same time some dude with a white and red flag is sitting on a chair to show whether or not a jump or throw is valid
  20. Electronic distance system is broken, but they're throwing again. Vetter to what looked liked high 50.xx, that should seal the deal for a medal if she doesn't explode on the 800
  21. This was likely to be enough for Thiam, but she does need to hope Vetter doesn't do anything extraordinary in group B. Vidts in pole position for bronze meanwhile, anything above 50 really should be enough for Vetter to secure a medal as long as she doesn't completely explode on the 800
  22. And with that, the 100th country to do so in athletics!
