  2. I can't believe how dumb the Italian federation is for allowing the national championships to happen a few days before the Olympics. Why? There's no explanation for that. And why not adding Elisa Iorio to the team? She could contribute more than Ferrari in team finals, in my opinion, even though a team medal for Italy was going to be next to impossible, anyway. I don't understand the logic behind this team, but let's wait and see.
  3. Have you watched any of the Chinese girls? Have you watched Sunisa Lee? Even the gymnast from Chinese Taipei now has a 6.5 D start value. Who would have predicted that? Certainly, not me. In my opinion, Biles is not the favorite for the gold medal. Yes, she's the favorite for a medal, but I strongly believe one of the Chinese girls could win gold and even Lee could sneak ahead of Biles, and she could realistically end up without a medal even if she hits. This is not being a hater; this is being logical. Can Biles win gold? Yes. Will she? I'd say no. Besides, results from 2014 and 2015 mean nothing in this sport. You should have known that. No one in their right minds would put Schaffer, former beam world champion, as a contender for anything, for example.
  4. If the Chinese girls hit, Biles will not win gold. Her beam routine is difficult, but it's not just a matter of her performing it well and the gold is hers. I'd say right now she's the favorite for a bronze medal. Definitely not gold. Also, scores in national US competitions are a joke and should never be taken seriously.
  5. I thought I would be happy with any result, but I got really sad after England lost. Funny thing is that my neighbors were also cheering for England and I could hear lots of screaming when Italy lost their penalty chances, but yesterday literally no one cared about BRA x ARG. Anyway, congratulations, Italy! A deserved win!
  6. I was right. First-ever medal for at the World Cup series. Vedeneeva was absolutely on fire and took home 4 out of 5 possible bronze medals. As expected, Russians took gold and silver in every individual event.
  7. It seems that "macaco", or "monkey" in Portuguese, is trending on Twitter. Monkey emojis and mentions of the band Arctic Monkeys are also more common. If I understand things right, it's because Latin Americans, mostly Argentinians, are being racist to Brazilians after Argentina won the Copa America final. Seriously? What a shame.
  8. I'm 13 days older than you, so that probably makes me the oldest person in this forum, I guess?
  9. Yes, his tactics didn't work and I think it he will take this loss very seriously, even though there's no big pressure from media and fans now because of what I posted a few moments ago. The only TV channel which broadcast the match, though, is right now blaming him. The only person I like from this national team is Tite; he's intelligent, hard-working, humble and very talented as a coach. I don't think he "lost". It was not Brazil's title to lose. Our players were not up to the task and Argentina was simply better. We all knew it from the very beginning. Brazilian media should praise Argentina for winning instead of trying to make it look like Tite lost an "easy" trophy.
  10. And the "Neynight" is over. Congratulations, Argentina! Thank you for making Neymar cry. This tournament ended on such a high note I could not even ask for it to be better.
  11. It's funny how Brazilian media was like "Argentina has the better player, Messi, but Brazil has the better team" before the match, but then Argentina scored and it was not even a goal by Messi. LOL. And pretty much like in every other edition of the Copa America, most people in Brazil seem not to care about this tournament in the slightest. Here in Rio the local match involving team Flamengo drew A LOT more attention and talk than the Copa America final. In fact, some people are not even aware of this tournament, despite Rio hosting the final match. Anyway, I wanted Argentina to win right from the start because despite what Brazilian media says, Argentina has the best player *and* the best team of this tournament. And the Brazilian team losing the tournament would also mean a political loss for Bolsonaro, since he wanted Brazil to host the tournament so people could turn a blind eye to his wrongdoings for a while. It backfired in a very satisfying way.
  12. Members of the Brazilian group: Beatriz Linhares Déborah Medrado Geovanna Santos Maria Eduarda Arakaki Nicole Pircio Seriously, choosing Nicole Pircio is the biggest mistake our federation could have made. Not only she did not help the group qualify in any way, every time she performed in recent years, she screwed up badly. It only shows how our federation lacks transparency and chooses girls based on unclear and very questionable criteria. Horrible decision. Such a shame.
  13. Yes! Thank you for this comment. Mere seconds before the (undeserved) penalty, one very tall Danish player tackled one of the English players inside the penalty area. I was baffled a penalty was not called. Anyway, as it has been said here, it might not be the way we wanted this result to be achieved, but it was a deserved result. England and Italy are the two teams I wanted to reach the final stage, and I expect a great match to be played. I'm just slightly more inclined to cheer for England, but the final result will almost be irrelevant to me. I'm just happy these teams will play in the final.
  14. Brazil will send its biggest team ever to an edition of the Olympics not staged in Brazil. But literally the only sports I care are artistic gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics, so I'm kind of disappointed that our women's team failed to qualify. Still, 12 gymnasts is a very good number and I can't complain much. Most surprising qualifiers: men's handball team. This is weird because they were supposed to qualify easily at the Pan Am Games, but they failed to qualify after Chile played a great match. It was highly improbable for Brazil to even have another chance of qualifying, but after a combination of results from continental qualifiers around the world, Brazil was allowed to play the Olympic qualifier and they managed to qualify in the end. Most disappointing non-qualifier: women's basketball team. They should have qualified easily, but failed miserably. Actually, Brazil didn't qualify in basketball in any way, and this might be the first time in a long, long time we won't send a basketball team to the Olympics. Such a shame.
  15. Well, Martinez more than made up for conceding a goal. It's gonna be a great match between Brazil and Argentina.
  16. I can't believe Argentina conceded a goal and now we'll get to see a penalty shootout.
  17. Well, that's football for you. Congratulations, Italy!
  18. LOL, just when I thought everything was lost for Italy...
  19. But even gymnasts who did not qualify, like the two Brazilian individuals, decided to withdraw from the competition. It's kind of weird.
  20. So, Ukraine finally got a medal at the World Cup circuit this year. I'm worried about the upcoming Moscow World Challenge Cup, though. Only nine individuals are supposed to compete and three groups. This is the absolute lowest of the low number of gymnasts and groups I've seen in a World Cup stage. Even the 2011 Montreal World Cup, the previously least-attended event in the history of the circuit, at least saw 14 gymnasts attending. If the Moscow World Cup really happens, then we could see the first-ever medal for Latvia at the World Cup series. We could also expect medals for Slovenia.
  21. Before the tournament, I expected Brazil to lose at some point, but after reaching the final and against Germany, among all teams, I suddenly had big hopes for Brazil qualifying. It looks like I shouldn't keep my hopes up when it comes to Brazilian basketball.
  22. This is completely absurd. Agiurgiuculese didn't deserve to qualify. As far as I understand, the national team coordinator is minimizing this decision saying that Raffaeli is still young and Paris will come soon, but this sport is very hard on the body of gymnasts and no one knows whether Raffaeli will even continue to train until 2024. Terrible decision and now I can't force myself to cheer for Italy in Tokyo anymore, unfortunately.
  23. LOL, 2 goals in 4 minutes. When was the last time I saw something like this? Oh, yes, vs. .
  24. The women's team is... interesting. Basically, China wanted to make absolutely sure they're going to win gold and silver on the balance beam. So much for "Biles is going to win 5 gold medals" now, unless two Chinese gymnasts have major problems in the event finals. As I suspected, China will be pleased with a team bronze medal, but the strong dependence on the beam routines alone could make things very interesting. I wonder what Fan Yilin will be able to do now, and whether she will be able to win a medal on the uneven bars. Now, the men's team left me puzzled. What's the point in selecting Lin Chaopan? Maybe he was only selected to complement Sun Wei, but the very fact that Sun Wei was also chosen kind of puzzles me. If it were up to me, I would have selected Zhang Boheng and I would have put Liu Yang in the team, with Weng Hao getting the individual quota. No Sun Wei or Lin Chaopan. I get it that China is trying to justify their presences thanks to previous experience, but it's not like they're actually rock solid and 100% trustworthy, to begin with. I believe You Hao was going to be selected for the team, but since he got the World Cup quota, China had to come up with something completely different from their original plan. Anyway, I'm very excited about two events now: men's team and rings. If Dalaloyan were 100% healthy, I'd say Russia would take gold easily, but without him in his best form, it's going to be a tough battle between Japan, China and Russia. I don't trust the Japanese team at all, and China might take the gold medal here, even though this is not exactly the absolutely best team China could have assembled. And now that Liu Yang was chosen, Petrounias will not have an easy time trying to win the gold medal. Everybody else will have a very tough fight for the bronze medal.
