I'll explain what happened.
In 2016 the IOC bought our data and asked us to continue updating it for a yearly fee.
At the end of 2023 they decided to end this contract because they wanted to pay the same money to fewer to us.
We refused because it was unfair that some of us would not get paid.
 
Since then (1 January 2024) the job of updating Olympedia relies completely on the IOC. It has not been successful.

Depends on if they were "renting" the information or "buying" it. Again, without seeing the contract we don't know what they can and cannot do.

Of course always easy to say without being involved, but if selling such a database, I'd personally definitely have kept a copy on my computer  

The IOC wanted ownership of the data collected by the group which means they didn't have that information in the first place. I hope the information and future ones aren't lost to time. It should be easier with the post-internet era.

Olympedia is/was so amazing and the work all these people have put in it for so many years is incredible, only for the IOC to go and say "nah, thanks man" and leave it in the dust

As far as I know, IOC doesn't support Olympedia anymore

Nino Salukvadze will carry the Georgian flag for the third time and the second with Lasha Talakhadze. She will also become the first woman to compete in ten straight Games. Wow.

I assume Wembanyama not being chosen is due to the basketball team having a match the day after, or would they simply prefer an athlete with a story over potentially the number one super star?

yes the choice is logical for these 2 athletes who will make their last Olympic games

They announced diving and marathon swimming yesterday so I’d imagine it’s on the way

Getting back in men's basketball and women's water polo, both for the first time since 2008, certainly helped! Otherwise we would have 76 which would've been our smallest team since Barcelona 1992!
