Sure, defending champions/DL winners should be there, but only through the national selection. In most cases this is just a fancy rule that allows powerhouses to have their 4th best athlete entered (not the defending champion or DL winner)... And yes, check the entry list, USA does have 5 athletes. They indeed have their 5th best athlete entered.

What is this? 100m preliminaries suddenly have the likes of Canada and New Zealand in them. I guess that's because IAAF seemingly no longer allows exotic nations to enter 1 man + 1 woman (now it's only 1 total athlete for them)... And yet we have freaking Diamond league winners getting the free pass + former World champion or whatever. 5 Americans in women's 100m hurdles.

@OlympicIRL Apparently there was a huge leap in Jonty's campaign this weekend.

Madagascar has a new athlete... 16 year old Mialitiana Clerc. She was only 3 seconds behind the winner in her first race so it's safe to assume that she was well within 140 FIS points (FIS points yet to be published). Yay, 7 athletes now.

However, we'll see Korean water polo showing new "heights".

So we will have 9 athletes here, pretty much our usual number. Kolak and Perković are the frontrunners, for sure. But there are also some other good names here. Both Žunić and Mihaljević should have a good chance for the men's shot put final. Pole vaulter Horvat has a chance too (made at the final in 2015). Ana Šimić though is in pretty bad shape, I don't expect her to challenge for the final this time. We also have 3 female marathon runners (Bjeljac, Matošević, Stepan), which is the first time we have a full team in some event. Hopefully conditions for the marathon in London will be fair enough for a potential PB. Biggest absentees are Vlašić and Ivančević, both through injuries (I think).

That explains the Hungarian bronze in the earlier relay.

Awesome. I was leading for such a long time in the second part of the contest so I was convinced the somebody's gonna come and overtake me.

As I said, not fair. The breaststroke race is the longest so he can make more time than anyone else.

Medley relay is not really fair because Peaty can make way more time than the best guys in the other events.
