  1. Germany makes it to the playoffs with a steal in the 10th, knocking out Switzerland!

All playoff teams are set, just positioning now.

Canada wins or Scotland loses tonight, Canada secures a semi spot. Neither of their opponents are playing for anything (SUI and SWE, respectfully).

Assuming we finish first or second in the group (not a guarantee but likely) we’d have a decent draw.

First in Group A we’d likely face Australia/Germany (Australia is more likely, one of their key players Sam Kerr injured her ACL earlier this year and is unlikely to play) or Japan/Brazil (maybe even Nigeria, they aren’t a half bad team) in the quarterfinals, followed by a potential encounter with Spain in the semifinals.

Second in Group B we’d likely face Germany or Australia in the quarterfinals, followed by a potential encounter with the United States in the semifinals.

Essentially, getting first in our group means we’d have an easier quarterfinal followed by a very difficult semifinal. Getting second in our means we have a tougher quarterfinal, but a slightly easier semifinal.

I'm confused here, Josh. Did you mean, "second in Group A" in your third paragraph? If so, how is a potential matchup with the US in the semis easier than Spain?

Or maybe I'm just reading this wrong altogether. I do agree, best possible group besides having the hometown team (but they beat Brazil in Rio and England in London, and then tied Japan in Tokyo. Wait, I'm seeing a trend here...)

Olympic pools for our men’s and women’s basketball teams are now out. Time-slots for matches are still TBD.

Canadian women will open their Olympic campaign against host-nation France on July 29, before encounters against Australia on August 1 and Nigeria on August 4.

Canadian men will start off against the winner of OQT Greece on July 27, before encounters against Australia on July 30 and the winner of OQT Spain on August 2.

Pretty tough draws for both of them (assuming Spain and Greece get in), but it's always going to be tough at the Olympics. The goal for both teams is to make it to the quarters without facing the Americans there.

If she wanted to do the 400 free/4x100m free, 200 fly/4x200m free, and 400 IM/200 free doubles it’s doable. Obviously she won’t race in both the 800 free and 200IM, but she’ll probably choose at least one.

I would guess that she won't do the 800.

    6:00am - Women's Tennis - singles final

    9:30am - Men's Skeet Shooting

    10:19am - Women's Gymnastics - vault

    1:35pm - Men's Track & Field - shot put

    1:50pm - Women's Track & Field - 100m semifinal

    2:30pm - Men's Swimming - 100m butterfly

Isn't every day a hot day for the USA? :d

Shona Branton split a 1:06.24 in the women's 4x100 medley relay at the U Sports Championships

That split would have moved Canada past the US into silver position in Tokyo, less than a tenth of a second behind Australia. Looks like Canada has their breaststroke sorted for Paris, there may even be a bit of a fight over the spot. Hopefully the other positions can stay just as strong.
