  1. since there is a Kazakh in top 3, the 4th placer guy from Japan should be ready to receive his bronze medal in 2020
  2. another 6th place finish for Ahmadi
  3. Very sad for Khedmati, she missed the final for only 0.2 on other hand Ahmadi will participate in her second Olympic final, even though Khedmati was my favorite (as Asian Games winner) Ahmadi has more experience in the finals as she won two world cups last year. let's hope she makes history here
  4. no this is the final list these entries are important because they determined the groups (A or B) with them. but for example if you post 450kg as your entry, the total number of your first Snatch and CJ attempts must not be lesser than 430kg. means 20kg less than the entry (15kg for women) countries have different strategies here, some post their 1st attempts + 20. some of them just give big numbers to scare the rest. China simply only enters something to be in Group A.
  5. Weightlifting Start list http://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2016/08/StarListPackage_GT.pdf I'm a bit surprised by some very high entries.
  6. haha, what a crazy match, I'm ready to go sleeping but they just keep scoring
  7. With this seeding system you have to beat one of top 8 to advance to the quarterfinal. so I think we can't complain about the draw, but of them have winnable matches before the quarterfinal but still they will be underdog.
  8. well, obviously there is no chance for our Rouzbahani with this draw, Mullenberg (NED) in 1st round, UKR/AZE in 2nd round and then Kazakhstan in QF. the same guy who beat him in London quarterfinal.
  9. No, Mollaei is already in Rio preparing for his competition, they probably gave Khojasteh's spot to someone in another weight, re-allocation in Judo works this way, they give the spot to the next eligible Judoka, no matter from which weight
  10. Today and the whole Russian team in weightlifting is officially out
  11. Weightlifting : CAS upholds ban on Russians http://www.reuters.com/article/us-olympics-rio-weightlifting-russians-idUSKCN10E2GQ
  12. I think the only one who deserved to be in the Olympics was Climbing, A true sport, but similar to any of current program sports. not corrupted Karate can give us more medals so I'm OK with this one as well even though we will have so many people here complaining about the officiating in this sport, even more than boxing
  13. Records in nationals or other internal competitions mean nothing for the real competition , most athletes lift around 10kg less,
  14. the thing is , if they get the Israel athlete in 1st round he has to withdraw, and then IOC will investigate the situation and by not sending him, they already solved the problem. weightlifting is not a problem , not a head-to-head sport. the only problem is men's 58kg Taekwondo and the Iranian there is the top favorite for the gold.
  15. Iran withdrew the spot on men's 66kg. not sure if they notify IJF in time to replace him with someone else. officially the guy Alireza Khojasted had "family issues" and didn't go to Rio but the truth is they made him withdraw because there is Israel is his weight. the same thing happened to Javad Mahjoub 4 years ago. and yes I know this is extremely stupid
  16. Usually One day before the competition, in general meeting. yes the Chinese girl was a medal contender, actually the top contender for the gold but now they traded a possible gold with a sure gold medal ! China wants all 4 female gold medals and they will probably win it. I think only China is capable of such changes, other countries already sent their bests .
  17. 1) if nobody bombs out, Salimi and Talakhadze will challenge for the gold and silver but then we have few athletes fighting for the bronze. Velagic is not among them, his chance is less than 5% in my opinion. 2) Of course, it's just harder ! much harder 3) Good question, I'm not sure about the answer. I think they have to notify WADA about their whereabouts but WADA probably doesn't test already banned athletes too much. our 94kg weightlifter Sohrab Moradi who is a clear gold medal favorite here had to sit out for 8-9 months more because someone mistakenly registered him as "retired" for IWF. they don't test "retired" weightlifters. and since they didn't test him during his suspension period he had to weight few months to be tested few times to finally be eligible to compete.
  18. Alireza Khojasteh withdrew from the Olympics because of "family reasons" !!! PS: this is nonsense, they made him withdraw because there is an Israeli athlete in his weight. the same happened for Javad Mahjoub 4 years ago. Khojasteh is just 19 and he had no chance but still this is stupid to deny him his right for such reason.
  19. Updated start list http://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2016/08/Rio2016_List-of-Athletes-by-Event_Updated_01082016.pdf no Russia and there are few changes, most important China added Meng Suping (instead of their 48kg weightlifter) when they saw Kasherina is gone !
  20. I just read that our athletes are neighbours to Norway and the Philippines
  21. their weightlifting prediction is a complete joke, it seems they just wrote some names randomly.
  22. Is this a joke or a real prediction ? I checked some of my favorite sports predictions and even though some of their wrestling and taekwondo prediction makes sense but in weightlifting, it's a total joke. some of these weightlifters will not even finish in top 10 ! imagine Nagy winning the super heavy weight
  23. I understand they are "angry" because Russia brought shame into this sport, this is what they wrote in their statement but to me it's unbelievable they are letting Kazakhstan participate. this is more than obvious that in this country they have organized doping. their midget coach Alexey Ni is indeed involved in this. all of their Olympic gold medalists failed the test. they had so many positive tests in 2015 World Championship, most of their current team members tested positive before, ironically most of them Rahimov, Zaichikov and Ulanov were average athletes before the ban, but right after serving 2 years ban, they came back much much better ! this is obvious what they did during their suspension and IWF is still letting them participate. I can predict in 4 years we are talking about how Kazakh weightlifters failed in Rio 2016 retesting !
  24. IWF sounds very angry about Russia ! yet they do nothing about Kazakhstan http://www.iwf.net/2016/07/29/iwf-eb-decision-on-russian-participation-at-the-rio-2016-og/ the Executive Board decided to withdraw the appointment of the Russian Technical Official from the Rio2016 Olympic Games. The integrity of the weightlifting sport has been seriously damaged on multiple times and levels by the Russians, therefore an appropriate sanction was applied in order to preserve the status of the sport. According to the Reallocation Policy, the Executive Board decided to offer the available Quota place to athletes from the following NOCs: Women ALB, GEO, MDA Men BEL, CRO, ESA, MGL, SRB
  25. That's the problem because we have only 1 major event a year, some countries take continental championships serious, in Asia, most countries don't. for having a proper ranking, we should have some Grand Prix events, when all top wrestlers come and participate. which is not possible at the moment for the reason I already explained, they cut weight a lot. the only solution is having the weight-in 1-2 hours before the competition forcing them to not cut weight. at the moment when for example you watch a 65kg match, both wrestlers are actually 71-72 kilos at least ! because they had the weight-in one day before the competition.
