  1. Entries are out for the European U19 Championships: https://worldrowing.com/event/2024-european-rowing-under-19-championships/ No , which isn't much of a surprise.
  2. I guess we need a topic for rowing fans to argue about who is in deeper crisis Not that we are better off, but at least the two quotas for us at this regatta kind of saved us from having an embarrassingly tiny team like we did in Tokyo.
  3. So no M2X for us, I hope they don't get discouraged and that Kalandaridis sticks around for Los Angeles. Cholopoulos we will still see at the European U19s in a few weeks We will have 7 rowers in Paris, definitely not as many as we expected but considering how much of a disaster the World Championships were last year, I guess we can't complain. We only had 4 in Tokyo so it is an improvement even if we are not back at our London/Rio levels yet in terms of team size.
  4. Rowing +4 Zoi Fitsiou and Dimitra Kontou (women's lightweight double sculls) Petros Gkaidatzis and Antonios Papakonstantinou (men's lightweight double sculls)
  5. Yes, well, we have LW2X and LM2X which will not be part of the Olympic programme anymore, but we also have W2- where Anastasiadou used to be a lightweight, and M1X where Ntouskos used to be a lightweight, so there is hope that maybe some of these can still be successful in rowing after Paris.
  6. I'm happy and relieved we were able to get these two lightweight quotas! These crews really deserved it. Also happy two of them are from my city (Fitsiou and Gkaidatzis)! Great for Kontou to go to the Olympics as an 18 yo, as of now she is the youngest Greek qualified in any sport, though Cholopoulos who is 17 yo will have a chance in about 10 minutes in M2X. Sad that Fragkou didn't make it, she had a great Olympic cycle at the U19 and U23 levels but clearly isn't getting good enough results at the senior level yet. She is still just 21 so hopefully she will be more ready for Los Angeles
  7. Congrats to you too! @Benolympique Hopefully, we can share some lightweight podiums together in Paris
  8. Couldn't have asked for a better start for the LW2X. They won their heat to qualify directly for the final, finishing 4.6 seconds above Australia who will now have to race in the repechage. In the other heat, France finished 14 seconds ahead of Italy. So as of now, Greece and France are the clear favourites to qualify although I still wouldn't count out Italy as they are the defending Olympic champions. Also pleased with our LM2X, finishing second in their heat and qualifying directly for the final, just .66 seconds behind France who are the big favourites. As in the LW2X, it seems that Greece and France are the clear favourites for the quota. I am unfortunately no longer optimistic about M2X. They did okay to finish 2nd in their heat and qualify for the semis, but were 8 seconds behind USA. And with the last minute new Serbian crew, I think it will be very tough to get the quota. But let's see, anything can happen in the final. Fragkou has a very small chance in W1X and now we can pretty much kiss that quota goodbye. Finishing 3rd in her heat won't cut it, and it's a shame as I really think she could've qualified if we sent her in W2X. Hopefully she sticks around for LA and can make it, she's still only 21 yo. 3rd for our men's pair in their heat. We knew they had no chance to get a quota anyways. It'll be a huge success if they can even make the final.
  9. I will never not be bitter about Georgiadou not going to the Olympics
  10. Now they are back together apparently
  11. Greek National Championships this weekend. After 18 yo Siskos broke the NR in Doha in the men's 200 backstroke with 1:56.64, now Christou takes the record back with 1:56.34! Good to have such competition in that event and hopefully one of them will break the record again in Belgrade and Paris.
  12. Gionis qualified for his 6th Olympics! He is now tied with a few other athletes for the most Olympic appearances by a Greek, though if Psarra qualifies in archery she will make her 7th appearance and hold the record by herself.
  13. Thanks for the clarification. So in the end it won't make a difference for us, and probably that third athlete who gets the quota will come from Final B...
  14. 2024 European Taekwondo Championships: SILVER: Men -54kg - Konstantinos Dimitropoulos BRONZE: Men -74 kg - Charalampos Flouskounis Men -87 kg - Vasileios Tholiotis Women -57 kg - Fani Tzeli
  15. https://kopilasia.gr/νέα/sti-loukerni-i-ethniki-gia-tin-prokrisi/ This is the article, it says in two different places that there are 3 tickets for the women's single sculls...
  16. Our rowing federation posted an article about this regatta and said there are 3 quotas up for grabs in Lucerne in the women's single sculls. For the other events we are competing in, they said there are 2 quotas. Now, do we know if there is a reallocation or was this a typo? Knowing our federation I will say it's probably a typo, but if not then that's massive for our girl as she's probably 4th-6th favourite, so she'd have a much better chance with 3 quotas than 2.
  17. Gionis played really well from what I've seen so far, even if he had to win his last match 4-3, he had four 4-0 wins and one 4-1 win until then, so I hope he will still be fresh for tomorrow's very important quota match against the Chinese. I don't think he will take it to be honest but he should be one of the favourites to get one of the remaining 3 quotas as his level here is very high so far...
  18. That's one thing about Greece, communists never took over (we had a complicated Civil War), but their descendants/followers are still alive and still have a political party (KKE) and still get a small amount of votes in our elections Tentoglou's coach (who is originally Bulgarian) recently ran for office as a member of this party...
  19. You said that about gemista too, please don't come back to Greece because then there will be no food left for the rest of us
  20. Even Greeks sometimes struggle to eat them without making a mess, and getting powdered sugar all over their clothes and the table/floor etc, so I must say I'm very impressed
  21. I don't know about other countries but in Greece it's not expensive to vote in Eurovision. It's like 20 euro for 20 votes or something like that.
  22. It's the same here, the radical left is full of miserable people who find something to be offended about and complain 24/7, and hate anything to do with the Greek flag or history or religion. They will gladly protest in the streets for issues/injustices impacting other countries that have absolutely nothing to do with Greece, but commemorating Pontian Greek genocide victims (annual day is 19 May so it's coming up)? Protesting for Cyprus or for the rights of the oppressed Greek minority in Albania? They do not care about these "nationalistic" issues and people like myself who care about these issues are seen by them as "racists" "[insert whatever word] - phobes" "fascists" "neo Nazis" etc. I have attended some of these "right wing" "national issues" rallies in the past and I will agree that occasionally a small minority of the people there chanted really terrible things which I did not agree with about immigrants and about people from some of our neighbouring countries, but the left wing media exaggerates very much. Most of the people there are not "fascists" or "racists". They pretend to care about "human rights" but really they care about human rights for everyone else in the world except for other Greeks...
  23. We did pretty well here, but my personal favourite are koulourakia, and probably they are the most popular Greek cookie as well, but they did not make the list but obscure ones like moustokouloura and amygdalota did?
  24. 2009-born Ariadni Mirtsiou got 4th in the women's pole vault as she cleared 4.20 m. So we now have the top 2 in the U18 women's pole vault this year, both are 15 year olds, as Anastasia Boumpoulidi cleared 4.25 a few weeks ago. The real interesting race though is going to be who gets the third spot for Greece in Paris in the women's pole vault. Either 38 yo Kyriakopoulou makes her 5th Olympics or 23 yo Adamopoulou makes her debut . Here Kyriakopoulou got 2nd with 4.40 (first result of the year for her, she skipped indoors) and Adamopoulou was third with 4.20 (she has 4.50 from a few weeks ago and is probably the front runner as she got the standard for Rome and was the third Greek to do so, so Kyriakopoulou won't be able to make it via ranking now).
