  1. Yes, i think everyone knows that. People criticize it because they think that the green jersey SHOULD be for the best sprinter, not because they think that it actually IS for the best sprinter.
  2. He used to be a very good sprinter, but he never was on the same level as guys like Kittel or Cavendish. In my opinion the green jersey should be for the best sprinter, so there shouldn't be any intermediate sprints. You only get points for finishing top 5 or top 10.
  3. I think Bora will go all out to win the green jersey. They realized that Buchmann won’t be able to make the podium, so they didn’t have to save energy for tomorrow and Sunday. Personally I never thought that someone like Sagan should win the green jersey because he clearly isn‘t and never has been the best sprinter, but I guess those are the rules. Once van Aert will be allowed to go for the green jersey it will be game over for Sagan.
  4. I always asked myself whether the following could work: All the riders of one team ride next to each at the front of the field on a narrow road and then one of them sprints away and his teammates ride very slowly next to each other in order to block the road so that no one can go after him ...
  5. The talent level right now is pretty crazy in my opinion. It should be very exciting to see Bernal, Higuita, Pogacar, Sivakov and Evenepoel battle it out in the next couple of years.
  6. You are acting as if that is some kind of secret ... GB knew exactly what they were doing, it is no coincidence that they went from 1 gold and 15 medals in total at the 1996 olympics to 27 golds and 67 medals in total at the 2016 olympics. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/sport/58335.stm
  7. I think the difference is that there was long jump to "practice" before the triple jump was introduced. On the other hand there wasn't really anything to "practice" for the hammer throw/pole vault.
  8. I don't think so. Lima himself said that he would have (probably) been overtaken anyways.
  9. Obviously the Italian federation read my comment from a couple of days ago ... kind of scary.
  10. Would be great, but I think at least Duplantis, Kendricks and Lisek are more likely to medal. Maybe also Braz and Morgunov (although he "disappeared" after his great 2018 season). Guttormsen might also surprise next year. Not sure what Baehre's potential is long term, he seems kind of heavy for a pole vaulter.
  11. I think people from most countries can watch on YouTube. I definitely can ... (in Germany)
  12. From a German perspective (I only really started following the olympics in 2008): Matthias Steiner in Beijing or Fabian Hambüchen in Rio From an international perspective (not sports-related): Hearing „Running Up That Hill“ at the 2012 olympics closing ceremony
  13. I see what you did there ...
  14. What about a transsexual, obese vegan who guilted everyone into giving him/her/it whatever job he/she/it wanted by invoking political correctness?
  15. I wouldn’t call what the EU did „ignoring“ ... Taking actions against countries like Poland or Hungary would be far more important than doing anything about Belarus.
  16. Like what? Belarus is far more dependant on Russia. I am also not sure why it should be the responsibility of the EU to interfere in Belarusian politics. The EU can‘t even take serious actions against Poland or Hungary, which would be far more important and logical than taking actions against Belarus.
  17. Ok, I only watched the prelims (didn’t know there was a final) and it showed 13:27 as his winning time.
  18. Interesting, maybe you should try the same approach as in other sports (swimming, wrestling). I think Italy could buy some Cuban track and field athletes if they tried.
  19. Impressive world lead for Vetter, I guess he would have preferred it if the olympics would have taken place this year.
  20. Wasn’t it 13:27?
  21. In german it’s „Kapstadt“. Hungary is both too poor and too small to host the Olympics, Spain is only too poor (in the sense of „Spain can’t afford to host the Olympics if we‘re being honest“). In my opinion only very few countries should be allowed to host the Olympics (given the insane costs of hosting them): Summer: USA, GB, China, Japan, France, Germany, South Korea, maybe Netherlands, Australia, Canada Winter: Norway, Sweden, USA, China, Japan, France, Germany, South Korea, Canada, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, maybe Russia On day 14 I would watch: Beach volleyball women‘s medal match (if a German team is involved), hockey women’s medal Match (if Germany is involved), table tennis men’s medal match (if Germany is involved), track cycling women’s sprint, athletics women’s javelin throw & women‘s 4x100 m relay & women‘s 1500 m (if a german athlete is involved), equestrian jumping team qualifier
  22. My list (cities excluded that have already hosted the games or were selected to host them) (no order): Shanghai Osaka New York Toronto There are a lot of other beautiful cities that could host them, but their countries are too small (Budapest, Vienna, Singapore) and/or too poor (Cape Town, Johannesburg, Marrakesh, Casablanca, Rabat, Lima, Sao Paulo, Bogota, Santiago, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Istanbul). Saint Petersburg can’t/shouldn’t host them thanks to the ban on Russia.
  23. Do you have proof that she doped? If not, then what is the difference between her and every other medal contender in sports like swimming or athletics? If you want to get rid of all the cheaters, you have to ban everyone who is currently a medal contender in those sports.
  24. If you mean: a) all = everyone except Ledecky b) destroyed = being less than 1.5 seconds ahead of Titmus (who is 2 years younger than her) and Köhler and only a bit over 2 seconds ahead of Wang (who is 4 years younger than her). 0.7 seconds over 800 m (the time Quadarella beat Titmus by) equals less than 0.1 seconds over 100 m, would you also say that person A destroyed person B if person A was 0.1 seconds ahead of person B in the 100 free? It‘s great that Quadarella thinks that she can beat Ledecky, it is probably what she has to tell herself to be motivated, but based on the facts I would say that this opinion has no basis in reality. So you are sure that the Chinese girls are doped while Quadarella is clean? Another interesting take ... We‘ll see about Panziera, time certainly isn’t on her side. Smith and McKeown seem out of reach for her. Ruck and Atherton are both clearly younger than her, so I expect at least one of them will get to 2:05 by 2021. You also have Masse and especially Baker who seem capable of 2:05. Panziera might be a medal contender on paper, but I don’t see her actually winning a medal. The good thing is that we will (if the olympics take place) find out in about 12 months.
