  1. Too many Marits! And I wouldn't put it past Bouwmeester to swim the 10km open water after capsizing, she doesn't seem like one that gives up easily. I realised recently that this could be the 4th Games where Bouwmeester wins a medal. She would be the 8th Dutch athlete to achieve that. There might also be a hockey player that was at London, Rio and Tokyo? Eva de Goede and Lidewij Welten both got their 4th consecutive medal in Tokyo.
  2. My own medal prediction for , with pessimistic and optimistic ranges: Archery: 0 Athletics: 2-4 - Sifan Hassan (maybe 2x), Femke Bol and enough contenders that could medal on a good day (4x400m women, Jessica Schilder, Jorinde van Klinken, Anouk Vetter). Beach Volleyball: 0 Breaking: 1-2 - India, Menno and Lee can all podium I believe, even if I've never watched this sport. Cycling BMX: 0-2 - hoping for Niek Kimmann or Merel Smulders, but somehow I'm fearing an all French podium on the mens side and Smulders is not a clear favorite either. Cycling mtb: 1 - if Puck Pieterse keeps her form into next year... what a monster!! Cycling road: 2 - womens road race and time trial. Medals should be expected, even if Kopecky and Reusser are probably favorites for gold. Cycling track: 2-4 - mens team sprint, Harry Lavreysen sprint and keirin, Maike van der Duijn omnium Equestrian: 1-2 - I avoid watching animal sports, but I believe Dinja van Liere and the jumping team are medal contenders. Field hockey: 1-2 - the women team will surely reach the final when I cheer them on live in Paris at the semifinal, not as confident about the mens team though. Football: 0 Gymnastics: 0 Handball: 0 Judo: 0-2 - Hoping for Joanne van Lieshout, other contenders are Sanne van Dijke, Guusje Steenhuis, Michael Korrel and Jur Spijkers. Going to lose a lot of contenders to home favorites probably. Rowing: 3-5 - w1x, w4x, w4-, m4x and m2x I believe, but we'll have to see the new boats in action some more. Sailing: 2-4 - 49er, 49er(fx), Marit Bouwmeester and maybe whoever qualifies in mens Foil Swimming: 1-3 - Sharon van Rouwendaal, Arno Kamminga, Marrit Steenbergen and Tes Schouten can hopefully win 3 medals between them, but I wouldn't be suprised if only we end with only a bronze instead. Volleyball: 0 Waterpolo: 0-1 - hopefully we can hire Italy to eliminate USA for us again, grazie mille in advance! Other sports: 0 - maybe I forgot someone, but I don't think we have any other contenders. Surprise medals: 1-2 - the best medals are the unexpected ones! Total: 17-35 - I'll be happy if it ends up in the middle with 25. I'd say we can expect about 8-10 golds, potentially from: Sifan Hassan, Harry Lavreysen, Puck Pieterse, Demi Vollering/Lorena Wiebes (depending on the race), Karolien Florijn, Van Aanholt/Duetz (49erFx), Lambriex/Van Werken (49er), Marit Bouwmeester and a suprise gold (Femke Bol? Marrit Steenbergen? India Sardjoe?)
  3. Thank you, AD has the 13 gold medals listed: Lavreysen (team sprint, sprint, keirin) Ellen van Dijk (road cycling time trial) Sifan Hassan (10.000m) Femke Bol (400mH) Field hockey teams (men and women) Sailing 49er (men and women) Horse jumping team Karolien Florijn (single sculls) Sharon van Rouwendaal (open water swimming) Not as odd as I expected, but definitely don't see all of these happening. I fear our team sprint might not win again and it's still a question whether Ellen van Dijk will return at the same level after her pregnancy (and even then Reusser is probably better). Meanwhile McLaughlin is probably missing from the prediction due to a lack of 400mH races or something. On the other hand, there are some potential gold medals not on the list (womens road race, Puck Pieterse, Marit Bouwmeester and the breakdancers).
  4. I always love those Gracenote predictions, but I wish I could see the data behind the medal tables. I guess we have to rely on media outlets purchasing the data for their country. I wonder why they overestimate so much again this year (13 golds, 41 medals). There's probably some oddities in there like Sifan Hassan winning in four distances or Annemiek van Vleuten (retiring this summer) winning both road cycling golds. I haven't done a sport by sport prediction yet, but I think 25-30 medals would be a great result already. I'm not even sure if 10 gold medals is realistic.
  5. Decent start for cycling team today, with 2 golds and a bronze in the time trial on what looked like a rainy airport in the middle of nowhere.
  6. I had really expected Tes Schouten to qualify for the finals this time, after a preseason with constant improvement of her PBs. Let's hope she makes it in the 200m at least.
  7. Meanwhile the whole tv broadcast was scheduled as Tour de France Femmes, so I was looking for the swimming livestream and only realised it was on tv later on.
  8. That second 50m of the breaststroke leg just completely shattered Foster and the WR. Incredible race by Marchand! Potentially the biggest star of Paris 2024!
  9. I was just looking at the results and wondering how fast they actually were, with multiple superstars in the same event almost make you forget how insanely fast even the 3rd fastest time is!
  10. We're playing well versus so far. The Portuguese kits are great by the way. Let's hope fashion is the only thing they're winning this match.
  11. Go Flammingo!! Happy to see him back in potential medal form I had never heard of his Chinese opponent though.
  12. What else could Vingegaard do except for following? We all know Pogacar is more explosive on the attacks. I feel like as soon as it was clear they were going for the stage win, this was the logical outcome. The Pinot climb was incredible, I wish he had won as well.
  13. Amazing race! This makes Klaver the second Dutchwoman ever to break 50 seconds, with Bol being the first.
  14. Great finish to the decathlon! Rooth taking the win over Skotheim and Roosen sprinting to the finish to take bronze over Meyer. Another good day for the Dutch, with medals for Van Daalen, Bouju (0,01s away from gold!) and Roosen.
  15. I didn't catch the relays, but based on the commentary it sounds like the Dutch relay failed a baton pass. However, still a great result for the Dutch. This 1500m win for Nillessen is a major upset and surprise!
  16. Great battle between Vanninen and Dokter in the heptathlon. Both can still take the win today! Vanninen used to be the strongest in this age group, but Dokter has really caught up and is working on a great heptathlon with 2 PBs already yesterday.
  17. Interesting that our first and only medals are in 200m breast stroke, suddenly we are specialising in breast stroke ever since Kamminga's success. Gold and silver in the same event might say more about the lack of competition than the strength of the Dutch swimmers though...
  18. IFSC World Cup Vilars Lead Men 1. Jakob Schubert 2. Adam Ondra 3. Alexander Megos Women 1. Janja Garnbret 2. Jessica Pilz 3. Brooke Raboutou
  19. Val di Sole Elite Cross Country World Cup Men: 1. Nino Schurter 2. Mathias Fluckiger 3. Vlad Dascalu Women: 1. Puck Pieterse 2. Martina Berta 3. Rebecca Henderson Pieterse just rode away in the first lap never to be seen. Again! This season is really way beyond what I expected from her, even if I knew she was a huge talent.
  20. Kelderman just had nothing left to close the gap. Hope it doesn't harm the team dynamic too much...
  21. I read on this thread that - went to five sets, but I didn't know the result when I went to watch the highlights on youtube. Luckily you can always figure out who's going to win quickly because they basically only show highlights from the winning team, even in sets where they're down in points. Well played ! Our team is honestly doing better than I thought, despite this loss. It's basically a whole new team from a few years back and it's finally starting to feel like there's a new basis to build on with players like Dambrink, Timmerman, Baijens, Knollema, Marring and Reesink. @CCB do you really think Dambrink is already the best player on the team? I'd say that title still goes to Daalderop. I wish Daalderop was a bit more of a leader in the field though, considering her experience compared to most of her teammates.
  22. The Netherlands really managed to draw 0-0, 1-1 and 1-1 in a completely winnable group. So many missed chances, we're really lacking some clinical attacking talent (including in the senior team).
  23. 1st place, 2nd place and 4th place for the Dutch dancers. I'm liking this extra medal chance more and more with every tournament
