  1. Correct, the Pan American Games have a higher priority than the Nations Cup Final despite the Nations Cup Final occurring first. The quota will be reallocated after the Pan American Games should there be any overlap.
  2. Group J is also simple, the winner of v will finish first while the loser will finish second.
  3. Yup and with looming for second place (unless they throw their final game) things will be a bit tense. Italy/Puerto Rico will occur first so Dominican Republic/Serbia will know if they are playing for first or second in the group.
  4. Group K is simple, the winner of v will finish first while the loser will finish second.
  5. Looks like got the win over that essentially turns the final group game into an elimination match. Here are the permutations and rankings: Winner 1. 2. 1. 2. 1. 2. 1. 2.
  6. They are currently the favourites to win the Nations Cup quota assuming Brazil, Canada and the United States get the job done at the Pan American Games
  7. I think you are glossing over that the lake/water area needs to be at least 2km long. It's one of those sports that is either very cheap or very expensive to host
  8. Pretty much. Since they are so close in goal differential it becomes who can win by more. Egypt gets the slight advantage since their match starts 45 minutes later so they will know how much they need to win by. In the event of a double loss, both nations would need to lose by a lot to not finish top of group assuming China beats Philippines and Mexico beats Jordan to create a three-way tie. I guess Angola still has a small chance, beat South Sudan by 14+ and then hope for New Zealand > Egypt and Jordan > Mexico (or Egypt lose by 19+). Cabo Verde and Cote d'Ivoire would need some crazy results to go their way.
  9. Eights is by far the least diverse Olympic event on the program. Like would any event that struggles to field double digit entrants ever be considered for the Olympics? With that said, the Eights is one of the events I look forward to the most so it will be a very sad day when the IOC finally axes the event.
  10. Yeah, I wish other sports with events with a large field size would implement such programs. The tripartite is wonderful and all, but it does hurt nations like Jamaica and Ethiopia where due to being strong in one sport struggles to participate in others. The downside with this program is sport federations may focus on "large market" nations like India instead of the small poor nations.
  11. Olympic Qualification Overview Africa No team reached the second round so the best team in the 17-32 classification will qualify. Here are their records record: 1-2 | pt diff: -12 record: 1-2 | pt diff: -13 record: 1-2 | pt diff: -17 record: 1-2 | pt diff: -34 record: 1-2 | pt diff: -40 All nations were able to pick up a win so they are currently tied, but Angola, Egypt and South Sudan's have the point difference advantage over Cabo Verde and Cote d'Ivoire. Of course, this only matters if they finished in the same position in their respective groups. In terms of group difficulty, everyone except Cote d'Ivoire has a chance at winning the group though Angola and South Sudan have the best chance. The match between the two could determine the Olympic quota. Asia No team reached the second round so the best team in the 17-32 classification will qualify. Here are their records record: 1-2 | pt diff: -28 record: 0-3 | pt diff: -23 record: 0-3 | pt diff: -63 record: 0-3 | pt diff: -77 record: 0-3 | pt diff: -80 record: 0-3 | pt diff: -100 Not a good tournament so far for Asia. Only Japan has won a match which puts them as the strong favourites to win the Olympic quota. Cabo Verde and Venezuela may not be the easiest opponents, but Japan can afford to lose one of those matches and still take the quota. The Philippines is the nation most likely to win both of their matches, but with China, Iran and Lebanon also facing Asian opponents in the 17-32 classification there could be a scramble in the event of a Japanese implosion. Europe 10/12 nations advanced to the second round as France (who was not eligible for the quota) and Finland failed. Things are still very much up in the air to comment on the quota. Currently, have a 3-0 record while have a 2-1 record. In terms of direct matches, and are in Group I, and are in Group J, and are in Group K and and are in Group L. 4-6 teams should advance to the quarterfinals. Oceania wins the quota as they reached the second round while failed to qualify. Pan America 5/7 nations advanced to the second round with and failing to advance. Like Europe, the quota may not be determined this round, but a couple of direct match-ups will likely spell the end for some nations. v and v will occur this round with Olympic survival on the line. The former match could kill off both teams depending on other results. is in a tough group, but their talent should carry them to the quarterfinals.
  12. In sailing, there's something called the Emerging Nations Program where World Sailing provides support to nations who are not fully developed in sailing. In terms of Olympic quotas there is one spot in the windsurfing and dinghy events each for the emerging nations which is what this article is talking about. I haven't found a list on who's eligible, I assume it is the nations listed in the two "not developed" columns seen here
  13. After a strong first half by Latvia, Canada was able to put it away 101-75 to top the group. Looking at the Pan American Olympic quotas, we likely have five teams going to the second round (six if Venezuela beats Georgia by 16+ points). As suspected the Pan American nations will have to reach at least the quarterfinals in order to qualify to the Olympics. and will likely face off in one group while takes on . Overall there's still a good chance to see three Pan American teams in the quarterfinals.
  14. Canada finally takes the lead against Latvia at half-time.
  15. Yeah, other continents should not be influencing continental qualifiers.
  16. If Angola makes the second round then they will very likely get the quota, the other African nations would need large upset wins to qualify.
  17. Correct, they will only be allowed to compete in the K1
  18. Good day for Africa. Assuming no nation makes it to round 2, the fight for the Olympic quota will be interesting. It may come down to the v match. also has a good chance if it can defeat . unfortunately has blocking it from winning the group while has tough matches against and likely .
  19. Outside of rugby sevens this is the best chance for a non-Australia/New Zealand nation to qualify in a team sport. It's something like 1% (or New Zealand fielding an ineligible player), but there's a chance.
  20. There's a few ways, though the most common would be through the world rankings
  21. Group A is now a mess going into the final game. needs to avoid losing by more than 10 points against to qualify unless defeats then it doesn't matter. just needs a victory against to advance. They can also advance with a loss if beats and Italy doesn't lose by more than 13 points needs to win by 10 points against to be guaranteed to reach the next round, though just a win would be enough should defeat . A loss eliminates them. needs to defeat by at least 13 points and must defeat While they aren't in favourable positions, should or advance they will be the favourites to grab the Olympic quotas.
  22. Yes, but they must use a different athlete to obtain the quota
  23. Pretty much. In the men's kayak, Canada has four athletes to use in events. They must participate in the K4, but can participate in the K1 and K2 boats.
