Let's take a look at who has benefited the most from the new (as in events not in 2018) events. In total 42 events have so far taken place that weren't in 2018. Does that mean China is stacking the event? Not really, China is by far the strongest nation so it's expected they would have the most medals. From a percentage point of view, the medals from the new events account for 16.4% of the total medals yet China's medals from the new event only account for 14.8% of their total medals so they are at around pace. The biggest beneficiary of nations with more than 10 medals is North Korea whose new events account for 43.8% of their medal total. In their defense, the weightlifting medals are considered new events since the weight classes have changed, if we exclude those their share drops to 25%. After that nations benefiting the most are Thailand (38.5%), Singapore (36.4%), and India (34.2%). For Thailand and Singapore they mostly benefited from the sailing program while for India they benefited from the addition of team events in shooting. The nations which benefited the least from the new events were Japan (4.8%), Malaysia (5.6%), Hong Kong (7.9%) and Iran (8.0%).

We have reached the half-way point of the Asian Games. Let's see which nations are performing better/worse relative to 2018. Here's a medal table comparison between events which were held in both 2018 and 2022 (including esports). Unsurprisingly, China as host nation is doing better relative to 2018. Most of this is due to their performance in swimming where they gained 8 total medals. On the opposite end, Japan's poor performance in the pool (-22 medals relative to 2018) is the reason they are on the bottom. Previous host Indonesia is down 10 medals while Thailand, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei are also down. Uzbekistan has had a great games so far. Recently they have been courting ex-Russian athletes which has only hasten since the war began. Yeah, unless something horrible happens at the Pan Am Games, Brazil and the United States should qualify there. Though having less pressure at the Pan Am Games is good for them. The quota will probably be between Italy and Mexico (I think the scores reset). With that said Mexico could very well defeat Canada at the Pan Am Games and qualify along with Brazil and the United States. -
Yeah, I didn't realize Peacekeeper Elite was just PUBG Mobile and I imagine China pushed hard for Dream Three Kingdoms 2. Not sure why as something like CrossFire seems to have more interest there. Looking at the popularity of games in the top Asian nations the following games should have been selected. Arena of Valor Dota 2 Hearthstone League of Legends Overwatch PUBG Mobile (or PC PUBG) Valorant They got 4/7 and Hearthstone was originally on the schedule before getting removed. Only Overwatch and Valorant were missing. The next tier of games would be Apex Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Free Fire, League of Legends: Wild Rift and Rainbow Six Siege.

The issue with esports is that it is very decentralized with no centralized governance. Any time one is attempted they ignored the established organizers and thus you end up with this. In hindsight it makes sense that the sport is so decentralized. The genre of games is so vast. It would be like trying to have football and boxing ran by the same federation.

Given the popularity of those dancing shows and figure skating, dance sport was likely to have a lot of untapped potential. Low cost to host, great participation and full audience, the IOC sees this as a great addition. Expand this to other dance styles and you can have a potential mainstay. -

That's because Brazil is ranked so much higher than their opponents. Before your match with Turkiye, your strongest opponent was Argentina which you outrank by around 175 points. Canada on the other hand has fewer points and besides South Korea everyone in the VNL will give us more points for a win than what Brazil got in that string of victories. If we do end up with an 8-4 record we'd have to defeat a couple of teams in the top 6 which will give us massive points. -

Looking forward to the VNL, Canada needs to go something like 8-4 and hope the loser of Dominican Republic/Netherlands goes 4-8 in order to qualify to the Olympics. The quality of wins & losses obviously matters too, but this is to give a general idea the difficulty we have to close a 30 point gap. -

So it looks like has the quota and the second quota is between . Netherlands can only qualify if they get a 3-0 or 3-1 victory. -
Canada has a great chance at finishing second in the overall medal count, but sometimes we struggle with gold medals so I think Brazil may have the edge there. Mexico continues to make the leap towards the Brazil/Canada tier. Colombia wins out in the next tier. While I think Argentina will get more medals, Cuba will win more golds to finish sixth. Chile uses the host nation boost to finish 8th, but close to Colombia/Cuba/Argentina. Despite falling off in recent years I think Venezuela gets 9th. Tenth is quite competitive. It likely comes down to either the Dominican Republic or Ecuador, but I'd also give a decent chance to Puerto Rico. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

I imagine most of the Oceania quotas will be reallocated to the World Rankings. MC1 may stay assuming they convince to participate. I'm not sure if they are able to find another nation for WC1 (or two for the kayak events). I think I've seen Fiji participate sporadically. -

I'm slightly nervous, Canada has had difficulties in scoring goals and Jamaica held up quite well defensively during the World Cup. A lucky goal or even PSO next week is realistic. -
Yeah it looks pretty bad. I'm not sure what the weather looks like in the coming days, but there's a rest day they could play or even have three matches in one day (8am, 1pm, 6pm start times). As mentioned before, cricket does need two venues if it ever joins the Olympics to avoid this situation (unless we have something like 6-team tournaments).
