The very talented 17 yo Konstantinos Karetsas announced he will play for his parents' country  instead of his birth country 
 
The Belgians do not seem happy but as a Greek, we have been in that position many times with dual citizens so it is nice for it to work in our favour sometimes too 
 
I mean in basketball we could have Vezenkov but instead he chooses to play for his parents' country , despite never living there, when with Greece he would qualify for major tournaments and be one of our starting players, and for Bulgaria they rarely qualify for anything...

Is this our first confirmed 2028 qualification pathway confirmed?
 
[World Taekwondo] World Taekwondo Changes Olympic Ranking Points Cycle
 
I think we were already aware that there would be a change to ranking system for LA. It's now confirmed that World Taekwondo are switching to a 2-year ranking cycle. 
 
The first ranking period runs from July'24 - June'26 with the second period running from July'26 to June'28. Ranking points from the first phase will be used to determine entry and seeding for Grand Prix events in the second phase. Only the points acquired from July'26-June'28 will count towards Olympic qualification. 
 
As per previous cycles, the top five athletes in each of the relevant weight categories based on the Olympic rankings published in January'28 will automatically qualify for the LA Olympics. 
 
Another qualification criteria confirmed relates to the Grand Slam Champion Series. In previous qualification pathways, if the top ranked athlete in the Grand Slam merit points was also qualified through the Olympic rankings, the quota was reallocated to the next highest ranked Olympic athlete. For Los Angeles, this quota would be reallocated to the athlete ranked No. 2 in Grand Slam merit points.
 
If this athlete is also within the top-5 in the Olympic rankings, the quota will be given to the next highest ranked athlete in the Olympic rankings. 

Tamberi just announced on the Festival of Sanremo stage that he will not retire and will continue to Los Angeles!

55th place for  Duda in today's U23 sprint qualifying. That's 11 points for Brazil in the ranking, alright, but more importantly for us: 11 points that @brunamouracan definitely make up in Trondheim.
 
Make up, you say? Yeah, here is the double situation: we want Brazil to get in the top-30 and have a second ticket, obviously, since it increases everyone's chance, including Bruna's. However, if Brazil has two tickets, the federation has decided that the first one will go to whoever gets the most points for the nations ranking. Duda is the only junior/U23 athlete who is in the fight for the Olympics, and therefore she obviously has a massive advantage simply because of her age - she can start in the U23 world championships, after all. She'll have the sprint, interval and mass start races to score points, plus the mixed relay.
 
That is quite a big points haul that is hard to overtake, considering she will of course also compete in Trondheim. The good thing about Trondheim is that, at least according to the federation's own rules, Duda is out of the team sprint, and so Bruna can make up quite a bit of points there. Finish way ahead of her in the sprint and the 10k as well, and the Schilpario points can be made up.
 
In other words, mixed feelings: we need Duda to do well in Schilpario, because of Brazil getting in the top-30, but we also need her not to do that well, or else a potential second ticket will simply be hers by virtue of being young enough to compete in the U23 world championships.
 
By the way, if Brazil ends up with 1 ticket, it will depend entirely on their internal rankings, which Bruna is leading with a large margin at the moment.

0-0 in Tashkent is not a bad result considering Iran played the entire second half with 10 men  but Iran got robbed of a penalty in 94th minute. it was clear handball to me, the ref called it but then the VAR room made him change his originally (correct) decision  
 
for some reasons we have to play our next home match against Qatar in neutral venue (UAE) on Tuesday.  a win there will put Iran in a very good position to qualify. I'm still confident they can get the 3pts against the so-called Asian Champion.
 
and looking at other results, S-Korea scored a big win in Jordan (they got eliminated by the same team at the Asian Cup) and Japan also beat KSA in KSA. I think JPN/KOR are safe to qualify as usual. it's between Australia and KSA in Group C and Iraq/Jordan in Group B

If it was a normal World Cup with 32 teams Brazil wouldnt qualify for sure.

If flawed ranking systems are a reason to kick a sport out of the Olympics, we'd lose more sports, like alpine skiing  

I actually think the WDSF did a reasonably good job running the Olympic event (like whatever people think of breaking, the actual breaking competition was well run).
 
But there is definitively a lot of incompetence when it comes to how that federation runs breaking in general. Which is why I think you see most athletes not engage with WDSF events outside of when they had to qualify for the Olympics.
