  1. The athletes are qualified anyway, they are taking up quota spots as is. Might as well get more use out of those athletes, especially when we are in a situation where we're struggling to get enough athletes in some events to justify holding a semi-final.
  2. An easy rule change that would be helpful would also be to allow relay-only swimmers to enter any event they have an OCT in (and the OCT can also probably be made a bit easier given achieving it just means you are eligible to get a spot by ranking anyway) and to allow two swimmers per country in an event even if one or both have only achieved the OCT as long as they are qualified for another event. (Obviously without dropping the requirement they swim in at least one relay heat)
  3. There should really be a minimum of 20 swimmers per event. We are at risk of having multiple events where there aren't enough swimmers to necessitate heats.
  4. 2020 Olympian (men's 4x100m freestyle relay) Ruslan Gaziev is suspended 18 months due to wearabouts violations. His suspension ends on May 31st, 2025.
  5. The way OCT places are distributed is bizzare as well. They try to equalize the total number of OCT places rather than prioritizing events that have fewer entrants.
  6. Did you forget how Olympic podiums have looked since at least the early 90s?
  7. Gotta love that personal touch
  8. What's funny is is legitimately on track for it's best summer Olympics since 1984, and it's best non-boycotted summer Olympics ever. But this is also the worst the rowing team has ever been. This is the first time Canada has failed to qualify a male rower since 1900(!), when we simply didn't enter.
  9. This is the second time Canada fails to qualify a male rower at a non-boycotted Olympics. The first time? 1900.
  10. Not protecting abusive people and not protecting the "clique" is always a good start.
  11. That's legitimately a big loss for the tournament
  12. From a fairness standpoint I think it would be ideal if that's the case.
  13. rowing is in complete disarray…
  14. Zero(!) male rowers in Paris. Hard to believe. Hopefully some heads will roll at Rowing Canada
  15. Oh, that's not too bad. I had almsot a mini heart attack when I read that there would be a change of format. I figured they would replace the cross country with ninja wariors or whatever. I'm not sure that I love this change, but I do think awarding the team and individual medals on different days is a good idea.
  16. In rowing there are only two host quotas, one in each of the single scull events, and only if the host nation has no rowing quota for that gender.
  17. Someone on SwimSwam pointed out that the final of the men's 200m IM is on the same day as the heats of the mixed medley relay, so Apollo Hess was likely picked so they can rest Finlay Know that morning. There is precedent for Swimming Canada picking someone specifically for the mixed medley relay, that was Javier Acevedo's only swim in Tokyo.

  21. Definitively no standards will be hit in the men's 1500m free, but at least it's an entertaining race.
  22. Mongolia also really hurt themselves by making a really ill-advised foul on a two-point shot (that Poland made) late in the game, which ended up being a four point play, which is obviously huge in 3x3. That turned out to be a game-losing mistake imo.
  23. Yes, though TBH the sample size is just so small it's hard to read much into it. They lost two close games to two very good teams. It's 3x3, there is a lot of variance. I've not seen anything that makes me doubt this team is a serious medal contender.
