  1. My hobby horse forever is that there should be a separate Olympics for mind sports and skill sports (name really needs workshopping), where everything from bowling, cue sports, chess, esports and motorsports could be included.
  2. Ya, that’s the main reason I’m not bothered by Breaking being in the Olympics. It very likely requires the least amount of resources of *any* sport at the Olympics in every metric that matters - quotas, venue, officials, broadcasting. It really doesn’t need to bring much to the games in order to justify it’s presence.
  3. So? The Olympics could not create a single new cricket fan, but adding cricket to the Olympics would add a lot of new fans for the Olympics.
  4. Link to an article from the news station: https://www.cnbctv18.com/sports/crickets-olympic-return-in-sight-as-ioc-president-thomas-bach-gives-thumbs-up-17703241.htm
  5. Well, the team didn’t make it easy on themselves. After so many close calls and underperformances in previous Olympic cycles it’s very nice to see them qualify. Best of luck to and in the OQTs.
  6. Boxing has all but been confirmed to be in the 2028 program. No idea about weightlifting.
  7. Does France prefer Baseball or Cricket? Maybe they would naturalize a bunch of Quebecois for an Olympic baseball tournament the next time Paris hosts?
  8. The good news is that still has their faith in their hands. Beating will be very tough, but if the team plays well they can do it.
  9. It’s also fine if Rowing is out of the way (just like I don’t have any issues with slalom being in Oklahoma). The Olympics is a TV event first and foremost, there is value to having dense venues but a few venues in far flung places is really no big deal.
  10. This is turning into a proper family drama: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/luis-rubiales-uncle-jenni-hermoso-denounces-spanish-federation-president-123810160.html
  11. Ya, Canada can finish in literally any position in the group. That being said, the outcome of the - game will decide if Canada advances in first or second if they beat Spain. and win: is first, is second, is third, is fourth and win: is first, is second, is third, is fourth and win: is first, is second, is third, is fourth and win: is first, is second, is third, is fourth
  12. Sources tell Reuters the decision on which additional sports will be included in the LA 2028 program will be made on September 8th. https://www.reuters.com/article/olympics-2028-idCAKBN3061MC
  13. The - match that will decide a quarterfinal spot is really intriguing. It will be a nice surprise to see either of those teams make it.
  14. And of course chocked. As is tradition for this national team.
  15. Obviously are all European nations. Rowing is actually one of the few sport where every continent (counting North and South America as separate continents) has won an Olympic gold.
  16. Also, I think if we were to cut rowing events the "middle" events (the fours and the double scull) make the most sense to eliminate. It still leaves the smaller boats, where more nations are competitive, while also leaving the heavier, more spectacular and more prestigious classes. Eliminating the fours would also lead to more countries building eights.
  17. So few countries compete because everyone other than the biggest countries will naturaly focus on the pair and the four. Given the resources required the eight is very much an all or nothing proposition because it takes away athletes from two different Olympic events.
  18. Canada is not a race walking nation at all. We had a really good period in the mid 2010s (and Dunfee), but that's an outlier.
  19. This whole qualification system is just very unfair in general.
  20. I really enjoyed these championships. Politics aside (because I have some real problems with the current Hungarian government) I think Budapest is in a pretty good spot to win a 2036 Olympic bid if they want to go for it, with two very successful aquatic worlds and now there athletics worlds going so well.
  21. Ingebrigsten is clearly a 5000m specialist :P
  22. This was clearly a title won in spite of, rather than because of, the federation.
  23. It would be a different story if he immediately apologized and admitted wrongdoing, I think things could potentially have been worked out. But he tripled downed and lied through official channels. There is no way he can keep his job, frankly at this point I don’t know how he can work in Football at all for a while, if ever.
