  1. I will not miss seeing the worst show jumping known to man in the Olympics, some of those horses deserve medals just for keeping the rider's butt in the saddle.
  2. Her interview after her first marathon lives rent free in my head.
  3. Eventually, but not for a while. I need a bit of an Olympic detox.
  4. 1. Rate the performance on a scale of 1-10 9. This was Canada's best ever performance in a non-boycotted Olympics. Only a few disappointments keep it from being a ten. Subjectively I would say this is Canada's second best Olympic performance of my lifetime, only Vancouver 2010 was better. 2. What were the suprises and heartbreaks ? Winning gold in the men's 4x100m relay is the biggest good surprise. Katie Vicent winning two medals wasn't a surprise, but her gold medal was a slight surprise. Two of our silver medals where big positive surprise: women's rugby 7s and the women's eight in rowing. The biggest heartbreak was basketball. Like, all of basketball. The women's team was terrible, the men's team had an off day against France and the 3x3 women's team was too busy committing fouls to win gold. Sarah Mitton failing to make the final eight in the shot put. Oh and of course the drone spying scandal definitively sucked, but the team's response to it was impressive. 3.Was your country's goal achieved? Yes. 4. Which are the sports that will be invested more in future? Current / Upcoming sports Canada most needs to work a lot on improving in rowing. 5. Who could be some the potential star for your country in LA? Summer McIntosh, Illyah Kahrun and Ethan Katzberg are my three picks for our biggest potential stars in LA. Not an individual, but the men's and women's Lacrosse teams could be among Canada's best gold medal chances in LA.
  5. Black definitively deserves recognition, she's done so much for artistic gymnastics in Canada.
  6. And now is appealing the decision, claiming they have video evidence that the inquiry was filed with 13 seconds to spare, not four seconds late. Once again, reminder that no matter what the athlete that should be in third won’t get a bronze medal regardless of the outcome.
  7. The fact that each esport depends on a commercial product with a privately owned IP is indeed one of the big issue the IOC has to contend with (though definitively not the only one). But I do think that if the IOC looks at it as a commercial event it would be a mistake, esports event run that way don't tend to have a lot of longevity, wheras the more community minded esports events have done better.
  8. Ironically I don’t think anyone is more skeptical of the esports Olympic games than the members of the various esports communities. Making the event viable is going to be a huge challenge for the IOC. I feel like most people don’t really understand that the esports Olympics are shaping up to be one of the biggest failure in the history of the IOC. But either way, the existence of the esports Olympics kills any chance of esports being added to the summer games. If the esports Olympic games thrive as a standalone event then there won’t be a reason to add esports to the summer games. If the esports Olympics fail then the IOC will be extremely hesitant to add esports to the summer games.
  9. Ya I think people can relax about esports, they likely won’t ever be in the Summer Olympics. The esports Olympic games are going to be a standalone event that will succeed or (most likely given how the IOC is approaching esports) fail on it’s own terms.
  10. I think there needs to be a balance between having stability in the program and also evolving. I think adding sports like climbing, skateboarding and cricket were all overdue changes, I’m just not super keen in how it was done.
  11. I'm probably going to take a bit of a break (I'm traveling for the Paralympics so I'll probably watch very little of it). For me the real excitement of the Olympics is more following how the Olympic program evolves and qualification moreso than the games proper, so I'll def be around a lot over the next few years!
  12. Awesome. Those are all among the events I hope to see (I'm def one of the rare fan of the "urban" sports on this forum xD )
  13. Ya, so snowboarding, freestyle skiing, surfing, skateboarding, freestyle BMX, heck even climbing all had these concerns too. It’s a very common concern among those “action” sports.
  14. Ya, if I had my way the quotas / events freed up from eliminating lightweight rowing would have gone to canoeing.
  15. I am! I live in Seattle so going to LA is sort of a must for me.
  16. Yup. The most ridiculous part of this situation is that the person who should actually have the bronze medal isn’t even in the conversation to receive the bronze medal.
  17. This might be a hot take but I actually think the 50s are the most boring swimming events.
  18. Four years out is pretty normal. I’m hoping there won’t be any real cut (except maybe for the mixed judo team event and the mixed medley relay, those can go at any time :P ) other than lightweight rowing. We knew before the Olympics lightweight rowing was on it’s way out, and I feel like, generally, we find out when events get cut earlier than when we find out new events come in.
  19. And we also know this should be three event: men’s single scull, women’s single scull and a mixed double scull.
  20. And there likely won’t be a CBC by LA so that will be fun too.
  21. This is why I loved watching in the US - no commercials with Peacock! I couldn’t even tell you about a single Olympic related commercial.
  22. I don’t think there is a precedent for a medal being taken away due to a judging error, and plenty of precedents for it being shared (1992 women’s solo artistic swimming, 2002 pairs figure skating and, most recently and imo most relevant, 2022 women’s ski cross)
  23. Best individual Canadian moment was the men’s 4x100m relay. I also have a real soft spot for Summer’s win in the 200m IM and Harvey’s foil bronze. And of course Katie Vincent’s win setting the non-boycotted gold and medal records was very special. I’m also still so happy that Deguchi won her gold medal, even though the final itself was not her best fight. A dark horse for one of my favourite moment was actually seeing Philip Kim win gold, it was special to see someone who truly would only get one shot at this step up and perform at their very best. In hindsight Kim had the most dominant performance of any Canadian athlete not named Summer McIntosh or Ethan Katzberg. Also a shout out to the women’s 7s team for doing so much better than expected. Best non-Canadian moments were three moments involving the host nation: the men’s Rugby 7s final, Vaast winning surfing gold at how in Thaiti and Teddy Riner clinching his fifth gold medal. Best non-Canada and non-host moments? Lydia Ko winning gold in women’s golf, Alfred winning gold in the women’s 100m and Sjostrom winning the women’s 100m free. And of course Lopez winning a fifth individual gold medal in a row. The worst moment of the games for me was definitively the 3x3 semi final loss.
  24. Nicole Hoevertsz also seems like a likely continuity candidate.
