  1. Sounds like a much more interesting event than the team aerial event. Going to be interesting to see how that competition format goes.
  2. Something that bothers me about 3x3 hockey as a new discipline is that it's a lot more similar to the "main" version of the sport than 3x3 basketball or beach volleyball. Heck, it's so similar that it's used as a tie breaker regularly in regular hockey! From a Canadian standpoint it would basically be who are the best overtime players and goallies who didn't make the A team on both the men's and women's side (on the women's side it would probably straight up just be the B team)
  3. I do think we need a rethink of how short track is packaged as a broadcast product given how little money is involved. Pretty hard to make a living in that sport.
  4. I'm releived this saga is over, at least from a sporting point of view.
  5. Ya, my family settled in North America before John Washington was born. We’ve been here a while.
  6. America was founded on a big chunk of empty land that was uninhabited, right. And hey, my ancestors moved to North America well over a hundred years before America was founded. Always tickled me a little that I immigrated to a country where some of my ancestors lived before the country even existed.
  7. The whole "homeland" talk (which both Israelis and Palestinians engage in) always bothers me because of how incredibly stupid it is. As a random example, I am Acadian. So where is my "homeland"? Is it Quebec, the "French" area in North America? Is it New Brunswick, where my ancestors fled to after being deported? It it Louisiana, which was set asside for them as a place to live by the British after they were deported? It is Nova Scotia, where the Acadians settled before being conquered and deported? Is it Normandy, where my ancestors lived in Europe before settling in Nova Scotia? Is it Denmark, where my ancestors lived before conquering Normandy? Or do I go back further? Or maybe I should live in Great Britain since my ancestors were forced to become subjects of the Crown? And I'm Roman-Catholic, so maybe Italy is my homeland? Especially stupid because for every single one of those places, some other group has a better claim as it being their "homeland" than I do, because it turns out it isn't that rare for multiple ethnic groups to have competing legitimate claims over the same area. Anyway, I ended up moving to Washington State, which is objectively not "my homeland" but, hey, weather's nice here.
  8. This feels like... not an argument an American (or a Canadian :P ) should be making given where we live and how many countries could "take us back"...
  9. It would be a complete disaster quotas wise. The winter games already have too small of an athlete quota for the current program.
  10. Some details on the IIHF's 3 on 3 hockey proposal: 8 team tournament for men's and women's 15 athletes per team, 240 athletes total (if they include this they better increate the 2900 athlete cap...) IOC expected to make a decision about including it in the Olympics in March
  11. The UCI urgently needs to make road cycling safer, the number of deaths we've been seeing over the past few years is simply not acceptable.
  12. Two time Olympian Kelsey Wog also retired.
  13. It’s just a great weasel word. We all want to come back to International sport "when they are in compliance". But there are very differing opinions on what that means.
  14. Wait they are hosting a Skater XL event as their esport thingy? looooooooooool, that's hillarious.
  15. But also he's the world record holder in pole vault, but taking the season off that specific event because of an injury. It's actually really hard to overstate how amazing an athlete Ohtani is to people who don't follow baseball.
  16. Gawd the men's Olympic gold medal game is gonna be at 4am Seattle time x.x Living on the US west coast sucks when it comes to watching European sports
  17. I'm a bit baffled that none of the alpine skiing tech races are at night.
  18. Only letting women compete in the 100, 200 and 400m is the most equitable solution. Female bodies just aren’t handled to endure the stress of an 800m race.
  19. That is more a legacy of Rogge’s IOC than Bach’s imo. Admittedly the disastrous 2022 bidding process happened under Bach, but all the seeds that the IOC was reaping were sowed under Rogge and Samaranch. Like say what you will about Bach but under Agenda 2020 every Olympic has been awarded to a democracy ( ), and we haven’t had super disastrous decisions like awarding the Winter Olympics to Sochi or awarding the Summer Olympics to an Athens bid that wasn’t going to use any temporary venues.
  20. God forbid the Olympics get dragged into the 21st century. There are a lot of bad changes that the Olympic champion in Fencing has made. But cutting the hosting costs (the IOC just cannot afford another disastrous series of white elephants like Athens 2004 and Sochi 2014 left behind), modernizing the Olympic program and, yes, focussing on gender equality are all reforms that were needed. How those reforms were made I have a lot of issues with, but I really think you need to have your head in the sand to believe those reforms were optional. If anything it took the IOC too long to prioritize those things.
  21. I think there is a lot of doomerism in this forum, there are a lot of deep, big issues with the Bach era IOC, but there have been big, deep issues with every era of the IOC. Bach did lead some changes that were hard and necessary. His authoritarian and secretive style is the most concerning thing about his tenure.
  22. Given the announcement says they are all going to present their program in camera (behind close doors) to the IOC... I'm not expecting a lot of transparancey.
  23. 's era of dominance in the hammer throw comes to an end
  24. Details, details Being a member of Mugabe's cabinet isn't the most problematic thing a current IOC member has done
