    I really don't understand why the winter sport federations almost universally have better world cup tours than their summer counterparts. Even curling has a solid pro tour (on top of the Canadian championships, which are arguably the biggest annual events in the sport in terms of media attention) considering how niche the sport is.

    joins Canada in qualifying from CONCACAF, beating Jamaica 6-0 in the semifinals. and will play Wednesday for the third spot, and a first berth at the women's world cup for either nation. The loser will play for a spot.

    The amount of disqualifications makes this really hard to watch. It's kind of ridiculous.

    See, the Dutch are very good at cycling because during the summer they can't use the canals to get around, so they are forced to use their bikes.

    TBH it mostly looked like Canada got it’s act together more so than France throwing. Canada had a laughable free throw and field goal percentage in the first two and a half quarters before getting it together.

    Japan way over-performed at Nagano 1998 so I'm not too worried for them.

    Seems like they are having a real hard time finding bidders. Bromont also withdrew as the 2018 host. They should probably look at cutting the events at the WEG to Olympic and Paralympic events (plus whatever the host is interested in holding).

    Why does the FIVB always come up with the worst formats? Why not just have, I duno, a knockout round after the second group stage?

    I actually really liked the three city concept. Very efficient way of staging Olympics in an era of cost cutting. For the Calgary bid there is talk of using venues in Edmonton and even in Whistler...

    Eventing has to be one of the most photogenic event at the Olympics. The Cross Country always produces spectacular pictures.

    Agree with you there, the "long" options are barely any longer. There's almost no point in taking the short option.

    If they could remove the mixed 4x400m relay and replace it by the women’s 50km walk I would be pretty happy...

    Yes, nevermind that both FINA and CAS believed that she was credible when she claimed that she didn’t actually dope and that there had evidence to bolster her claim... Also this isn’t that much of a free pass given that she has to miss the 2019 worlds due to USA Swimming’s very bad, no good qualification system.
