  1. * Alpine Combined specialist :P Weirather was very close to having a very, very scary crash...
  2. I’m pretty sure that if Calgary got the 2026 games and Lake Louise ended up being chosen as the Downhill / Super G venue over Nakiska you would have seen Vonn compete there...
  3. Honestly happy to see Aileen Frisch still competing, I was kind of worried she would retire for a second time after the Olympics (considering that’s the only reason she got naturalized in the first place). Makes me a little optimistic that the Korean luge program will stick around and keep improving.
  4. Considering that only one athlere who’s native language isn’t German has ever won a gold medal at the Olympics in Luge it isn’t that surprising. To say that the sport is dominated by germanophones is a bit of an understatement.
  5. Lindsey Vonn has announced that she might push back her retirement in order to race in Lake Louise next season.
  6. I think Skateboarding is probably pretty safe (the IOC will probably push hard for it), and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Surfing retained too since France has a lot of strong athletes and there are some very good venues in Southern France.
  7. She could reqlistically be a contender for three golds in 2022. Would be quite exciting to see.
  8. Erik Guay (2011 Downhill World Champion, 2017 Super-G World Champion and 2010 Super-G World Cup winner) has announced his retirement effective immediately. He was initially planing to retire at the end of the season but Manuel Osborne-Paradis' training crash yesterday prompted him to rethink competing this year.
  9. “Including the entire women’s Olympic team”, oh boy...
  10. It’s really unfortunate that Vonn won’t compete at Lake Louise in her farewell season, there is simply no venue that is as associated with her. Really wanted to see her win one last ine there.
  11. I kind of figured that was inevitable given his debut World Cup season last year. He looks better than Sung dis four years out of Pyeongchang.
  12. I mean... Moguls has gold medalists from four continents. Aerials has gold medalists from four continents. Snowboard half-pipe has medalists from four continents and gold medalists from three continents (Ayumu got robbed ) Ski half-pipe has medalists from four continents even though it’s only been contested at two Olympics. Snowboard Big Air has medalists from three continents after having been contested at one Olympics. It’s not just a matter of the sport as a whole bringing geographical diversity. There are multiple events in freestyle skiing and snowboarding where every continent other than Africa has medal potential.
  13. Realistically Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding are basically the last two sports to get cut, even behind a bunch of the traditional sports. They are cheap to hold, they are popular and they both share the unique distinction in winter sports of having multiple nations from four continents win medals (America, Europe, Asia and Oceania all have at least two medal winning NOC in both Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding). Freestyle Skiing is also the only winter discipline with gold medalists from four continents. With the possible exception of figure skating there are no more universal sports in the Winter Olympics.
  14. With the current state of Swedish politics it ain’t happening. At this point it’s Milan or Salt Lake City.
  15. Results have just been anounced. Calgary 2026 is dead. Yes: 43.6% No: 56.4%
  16. Plesbicid on Calgary’s 2026 bid today. Early results look very bad for the bid, Robert Levingston is reporting that through the first 65,000 votes the no side is up 65-35.
  17. Spain doesn’t recognize Puerto Rico as a country either and they have no problems letting them compete under their own flag.
  18. Olympic qualification in short track is actually quite harsh. Hungary, who won gold in the relay, qualified eighth out of eight teams for the Olympics.
  19. Sure will be. And you know what, I’m all for more short track at the Olympics even if the mixed relay format is a bit ridiculous. Short track relays are some the best team events in amy individual sports IMO.
  20. Nah, Billes is just that good under the current code.
  21. And it’s just the clean FIS world feed too. NBC isn’t even doingn anything other than retransmitting it.
  22. It appears like a last minute funding deal is in place for Calgary's bid https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/olympic-funding-agreement-reached-1.4885230
  23. http://www.cbc.ca/1.4882828 CBC is also independently reporting that the Calgary bid is almost certainly dead.
  24. Calgary Herald is reporting that the Calgary bid is likely to be formally terminated Wednesday. At this rate Milan will be the only bid left by the end of the year...
  25. I mean they reschedueled the race for a Thursday in December. Before the Xmas vacation. Not a much better time surely. Also I guess I don’t really care about the time of the week because most races are way outside of when I’m awake anyway. The Sölden races started at 3am local time for me.
