  1. Without any issue. Canada has suitable surf venues on both coasts.
  2. beats for the final spot. Congrats to and for both going undefeated against a strong field. Final mixed doubles field: Special congrats in order to and who are making their Olympic debut in curling.
  3. We do not know. The IOC is apparently going to clarify tomorrow the steps Boxing and Weightlifting need to follow to be included in 2028. There is apparently going to be a way for them to be included other than the additional sport path. It definitively looks like it isn't game over for the three sports that are currently excluded, but this is still obviously not good for them.
  4. Talk about a snub of Petra Vlhová.
  5. If anyone wants to suffer through the press conference:
  6. Paris set a pretty clear precedent that the IOC will let you host surfing literally anywhere in your country without any complaints - a Toronto bid would have no problem finding a suitable natural venue somewhere in Canada. And if there is no suitable venue in country and a bid isn't willing to have a venue in another country wave pools are a possibility now (even though they are very much considered a back-up option).
  7. List of core sports, as of 2028, with new additions in bold: Aquatics Archery Athletics Badminton Basketball Canoeing Cycling Equestrian Fencing Field hockey Football Golf Gymnastics Handball Judo Rowing Rugby Sailing Shooting Table tennis Taekwondo Tennis Triathlon Volleyball Wrestling Climbing Surfing Skateboarding As of the 2028 Olympics Boxing, Modern Pentathlon and Weightlifting are no longer "core" sports. Their place have been taken by Climbing, Skateboarding and Surfing, who are now permanent parts of the Summer Olympics. There will be a "pathway" for Boxing, Modern Pentathlon and/or Weightlifting to be included as "core" sports for 2028, and of course the OC could propose them.
  8. beat in the first semi-final and beat in the second semi-final. And just in, the result of the first final: has qualified for the Olympics in curling for the first time ever, thanks to a 6-5 win over . Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt went an impressive 7-0 all tournament and will now go to the Olympics. If John Morris doesn't win the Canadian mixed doubles Olympic trials he will go to the Olympics as a coach for Australia.
  9. Last two spots are by time, so if they run a good race in Salt Lake City they should get one of those two spots. They won't qualify by points.
  10. If they lose *any* quota it reduces the max number of skaters from the already low maximum of 9 to 8 (it was 10 in Pyeongchang).
  11. The playoffs for the final two spots are set. The first spot will be contested between and the winner of the / semi-final. The second spot will be contested between and the winner of the / semi-final.
  12. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/winter/luge/olympics-natalie-geisenberger-skip-games-1.6277757 The two time defending champion in both singles and relay, Natalie Geisenberger, is considering skipping the Olympics due to the COVID restrictions in place.
  13. predictably joining the "diplomatic boycott".
  14. Damien Warner, Tokyo 2020 gold medallist in the Decathlon, won Canadian athlete of the year. Also on the shortlist: Andre de Grasse (Athletics) Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Baseball) Connor McDavid (Ice hockey) Alphonso Davies (Soccer) Stephanie Labbé (Soccer) Maggie Mac Neil (Swimming)
  15. Too bad Streslov isn't Belarusian, this would have been a fun mixed relay.
  16. and both won their pools and are each one game away from the Olympics. Two very different stories here - is trying to make it's Olympic debut in Curling while is trying to keep it's streak of participating in every Curling event since the sport was re-introduced in 1998 alive. is the only other country with that distinction. and qualified for the semi-finals from pool B - South Korea is in Australia's bracket while Finland is in USA's bracket. In pool A , , and are still fighting for the two remaining semi-final spots. - play later this afternoon in what is a de-facto quarterfinal match.
  17. How relieved are you that you didn't have to go through this entire ordeal with as first reserve?
  18. The current detailed standings are on Wikipedia and should be accurate. The time rankings are actually really easy to compute, my only real worry in terms of accuracy is miss-understanding some part of the qualification document.
  19. I think it would be a fair trade-off to have less teams, maintain four member teams (except maybe in dressage?) and keep the same number of nations overall.
  20. Baffling they release the ranking in that fashion then…
  21. At this rate the IIHF will ask to travel just in case.
  22. Point 1 and 2: that's completely academic. The US government, and it increasingly looks like some other Western governments, aren't doing a diplomatic boycott of the IOC. The US isn't snubbing the IOC as they are organizing the 2028 Summer games and are the front runner to be awarded either the 2030 or 2034 Winter games. Literally nobody cares if the formal invitation came from the IOC or the PRC's government, everybody knows this is a spat between a handful of Western countries and the PRC's government. As for point 3... I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that "the International Olympic Committee who are politically neutral" is a joke. Like, I know that's what they claim about themselves, but nobody actually believes them right?
  23. Check your calendar and re-read my post :P I was making fun of a certain user who seemed a little too sure Trudeau was going to be out of a job by now.
