  1. I don’t think Kramer intimidated very many skaters. Jokes aside, hats off to Kramer for an unbelievable career.
  2. Swings deserves this so much, esp after doing all the work.
  3. At least she has two gold medals (one in both events where she fell) to go back home to. And everyone in the Japanese team had a gold from 2018, too. So hopefully that makes it less traumatic.
  4. Everyone is tied, give everyone gold medals that way can get it's first ever gold medal in alpine skiing :P
  5. That would certainly make it much more possible for countries with less resources than Germany to be more competitive. I know equipment is important in every winter sports, but I feel like in sliding sports it is close to reaching the point of absurdity.
  6. Because using intermediate points to determine places 7 to 10 is youth, urban and gender equal.
  7. That was also a problem with the alpine skiing team event - they considered cancelling it today because many skiers have flights booked for Sunday morning, and all the Monday flights are apparently booked.
  8. Can't wait for the women's 30km to be shortened to 15km tomorrow.
  9. Assuming the conditions allow it, of course :/ Glad they are trying at least.
  10. Women’s snowboard slopestyle in 2018 didn’t have qualifying. What would have been qualifying was used as a (farcical) final instead.
  11. The sleds definitively seem to be way, way better than any other sleds in the competition.
  12. Not to my knowledge, but I have a better grasp of Winter Olympic history than of Summer Olympic history.
  13. This would be the first cancelled winter Olympic event since 1928(!).
  14. They could and should have held it yesterday. Or even cancelled the contest and awarded medals based on qualification results (as shitty as that is). The conditions today were neither fair nor safe. Even though, somehow, the best athlete won (congrats to Nico Porteous btw, he fully deserves this).
  15. Freestyle skiing is now only the second sport where at least two countries from four different continents have won gold medals. Say what you will about the "flippy flippy" sports, they provide a level of diversity unmatched among skiing sports.
  16. Well they managed to get this ill advised, unfair and dangerous competition through without anyone dying. Congrats. Organizers fucked up, frankly at this point it would have been fairer to use qualifying scores to distribute the medals (even though I would have disliked that outcome in terms of who the medals would have gone to).
  17. No golds in freestyle skiing for the first time since 2002. There were four events then, thirteen now. Embarrassing.
  18. Well it's now official: for the first time since 2002, will not win any gold medals in freestyle skiing. When that last happened there were only four freestyle events. In Sochi and Pyeongchang Canada won four gold medals, when there were only ten events. In Beijing there are thirteen events and Canada won none. This is definitively a low, low point for the sport in Canada.
  19. Alternatively they could just award shared first place to all 15 teams.
  20. They really should have held this final yesterday.
  21. Blunk said in the kiss and cry that they should call off the contest. Back to back 1620s in these shitty conditions from Porteous is ridicukous.
  22. I genuinely don't get the impression China wanted to host these Olympics all that badly. There just happened to be an opportunity and they took it, but when Beijing bid for 2022 it felt more like laying the groundwork for a future bid than a real attempt at winning. Then all the cities, one by one, withdrew.
  23. After the under-performance in the 500m this medal by Laurent Dubreuil feel like, to quote Petra Majdič, a gold with little diamonds in it.
