  1. In Paris Lombardo has the best chance for a men's medal - even gold? + possibly Parlati but not really a gold, I think. Any other medal would have been a sensation. In women there are 3 real chances: Scutto, Giuffrida, Bellandi. I would take 3 medals, 1 of which would be gold blindly.
  2. We don't have a qualification in the 63 kg class yet but if we can it, I would sooner see Savita Russo in Paris. Russo is slightly higher in the ranking and is 6 years younger - she is 18. She is more promising and talented than Favorini.
  3. Piras will fight for bronze and this is 100% a qualification for Paris for him. He will meet the European champion from Georgia, so he will not be a favorite, but he can fight. In the semi-finals, it led to overtime and 2 penalties for the strong Japanese. The Italian's form is high. Toniolo was very unlucky, because the Japanese reached the semi-finals. With a better draw, she could count on a repechage. She has certain qualifications for the Olympic Games and she is young. This is more of a material for a 2028 Olympic medalist. In general the judo team looks good and I expects 11-12 Olympic qualifications. If Polling keeps QO from the rankings and not from CQ, there is little chance for Savita Russo to move up from CQ. Currently it takes place virtually but it is close. If the federation put at least 1/3 of the effort into wrestling as it does in judo, we would easily get 3-4 qualifications there.
  4. Do you know why Lombardo won't start tomorrow?
  5. Italy has a very old team: three players are over 30 years old. Two of them played at the Tokyo Olympics. It's a pity they didn't bring in 1-2 players from the top Italian 5v5 basketball clubs. Many teams do this. Only this would require shortening the season, because the finals are still underway in Italy. unfortunately we were placed in the group of death and now in 1/4 final we have probably the strongest team here: Canada. Only Spain is still as strong.
  6. The missing of softball and karate could be compensated by football men`s team but unfortunately we have not been able to advance to the Olympics for almost 20 years. And that's as many as 18 people. Around the turn of the century we were regularly qualifying men's football players for the Olympics + we were better at basketball. I regret that we didn't even compete in Rugby 7, as we had quite good teams in the classic formula of this sport.
  7. Unfortunately we are having a very hard time with these qualifications.- team sports in particular I hope that we will move forward significantly with rowing at the beginning of next week.
  8. In my opinion, it should be like in judo everywhere: regularly updated rankings + possibly some knock-offs in May/June.
  9. Moroni failed part 1 of the competition. In any case, neither Moroni nor Rogora aren`t medalist material in Paris. It's nice if at least one of them qualifies and that's it. From the Italian team, only the men's speed team we have a chance for medal.
  10. And here are 10 or 11 places? Is relocation from France place?
  11. Virtually, Moroni probably qualifies after 1 tournament? According to my calculations, there are 8 of 10 places that count + here the 11th place from relocation will probably it (QO for host place). I hope they will publish some ranking after the 1st competition, because it is very complicated...
  12. I didn't know this forum, thanks. I am registered on insidevolley and I write something there from time to time. There are some people from Italy.
  13. Here is an interesting english-language website about volleyball(mainly women's, but there are also men's topics):: http://inside.volleycountry.com/ Maybe you know? There are various calculations and ranking simulations regarding VNL 2024.
  14. Currently, Canada is about 2.5 points behind the Netherlands. It's very close now
  15. First of all, I can see the commitment, motivation, will to fight and positive flow in the Canadian team. Just what Italians have been missing in recent years.
  16. Max. 3 people from 1 country.: USA, BRA, AUSx 3. However, the previous ranking also counts here. It's quite complicated. According to my calculations, the 2nd Italian men will QO for today, who was 20th today,
  17. The Giro is definitely lost but maybe it's better because she won't get injured there and will focus only on the track. In the road race, she could only help Longo Borghini, and the closer to the Olympics, the more dangerous the crashes become. When I look at Milan's finishes I pray that there will be no fall.
  18. I am finally waiting for Italy with the strongest squad and in good shape. Since last season, the Italian team had problems and never played in the strongest squad + there were problems with the coach. Now the new coach - Velasco needs time and some of the players from Congeliano and Milano have not joined the team yet. The recent club season was great for Italian clubs: 3/3 + Italian final in the Champions League.
  19. On the other hand, Slovakia's defeat against Germany surprised me negatively. However, it seems that Latvia is in poor form and the top 4 is rather certain.
  20. The only time in history we played at the World Cup was in 1997. The hardest part of these qualifications was, surprisingly, in the first round against Turkey: we defeat in the first match away by -9 goals and a wonderful win at home by +10 goals. Later, against Belgium and now against Montenegro, we won two matches each: at home and away. Especially the last match against Montenegro was under our absolute control: we were still leading by several goals.
  21. We finish with 1 qualification - which equals the worst result in the 21st century - London 2012. From Sydney 2000 in 7 editions we usually had 2 quotas: 2000, 2008, 2016, 2020 and 1 in the mentioned London 2012 + as many as 6 Q in 2004 ( 2x2x2). I don't remember what happened that we made us do so well in that qualifications but during the Olympics itself, no one even advanced to the top six. However, there were editions with only 2 competitors, when each brought home 1 medal: gold in 2008, bronze in 2016 and bronze in 2020. Quantity doesn`t always = quality, although here in Paris there will be neither one nor the other . Our young girl goes there to learn and will probably be eliminated in the first round.
  22. Ben Honis has no chance against the Chinese. Unfortunately, our native freestyle wrestlers are simply too weak physically. This is a gap that no amount of technical training, will to fight, ambition, etc. can bridge. Conyedo, on the other hand, couldn't find his place after moving to a higher category. He has no idea how to fight. Chamizo was motivated, but age is already taking its toll + huge competition + scandal in Baku. Miraculously, we are left with one qualification for women and avoid the embarrassment of the decade. However, I don't see the future of wrestling in Italy without major changes. There are two options: naturalization of foreigners or hiring a coaching staff from abroad. Or both. With the current staff, we are doomed.
  23. I think the IOC must give him such a card. UWW is already done with it + kind of gave us back 1 card in Russo's case. Now all hope lies in Malago and his contacts with Bach. Then a wild card will be possible.
  24. As the name suggests: a wild card, i.e. something discretionary, e.g. when someone lost their qualifications due to a scandal, like Chamizo, or, for example, in fencing, Olga Charlan from Ukraine received a wild card after dsq at the World Championships, which she did not use because Ukraine advanced with the entire team.
