    Totally.

but we can also say it was super odd that Japan and Korea had to fly around the world to play in 3 days difference.
I understand it was amazing for part of the first round to be played there: Nippon had full house, it made it easier for Korean, Taiwanese and Australian fans... but perhaps 3 days was a short notice for that.

You're still alive!   A couple of others had  winning that last one, but yours is the last bracket standing.

One day the IOC will allow 12-team tournaments for invited sports and then Canada will have a much better chance at making it.

lol everything for Canada has been disappointing this year. Add on for me being a Maple Leafs, Patriots, Blue Jays and Wolverhampton fan these last few months haven't been great. At least curling has been great.

Happy for  the best team qualified and will make for some entertaining games in LA. The fact that Canada were even this close to qualifying is great though and the future is bright.

I know my fellow Canadians will be upset over this result. I too am also sad to see Canada not get a quota.

But at the same time, super happy for  Venezuela. They were given a tough hand being in the same pool as the DR and facing Japan in the quarterfinals but still managed to reach the semifinals. They deserved this quota and if MLB players will be in the Olympics, I'm glad we'll be able to see Acuna and the rest of the Venezuelan superstars at the Olympics.

    Huge congratulations to them!

Well, despite the completly bullshit qualification system the two best teams from the Americas qualified. Some folks at WBSC are gonna be happy tonight.

Those are runs. Canada and Puerto Rico are both tied.

EARNED RUNS are runs that are scored that aren't the result of a fielding error. Canada has allowed 3 fewer earned runs than Puerto Rico.

So for example, if a runner gets on base because a shortstop misses a throw to first base and then that runner scores, then that's counted as an UNEARNED run.

Not sure if I'm nagging too much on this, but this actually regards ONLY to a first round tiebreaker. Even on the webpage of MLB referenced by this article it clearly says:

    "Pool Play and Tie-Breaking Procedures:
    First Round"

it does't say anything regarding FINAL STANDINGS.

My take on this is that MLB probably doesn't care much for that and it didn't realise it would be so important fot Olympic qualification (if so: they're stupid, for sure).
If we had a clear rule, the MLB it would already have posted something regarding that...

    EARNED RUNS allowed

     Canada - 10
     Puerto Rico - 13

Tie-breaker goes to Canada. Puerto Rico is eliminated from Olympic qualification.

Actually this is specifically for a group tie-breaker. I'm not sure if it will be used to rank 5-8th.

In case it is, Canada has 24, Puerto Rico 15 (21 now), Venezuela 26 (in case it also reaches 15/135)

I cannot find an official document stating the rankings. But we do have examples of how WBSC has done the rankings in past years.

    From 2023:

Teams eliminated in the same round were further ranked by overall record but there were still ties in the overall standings.

    From 2017:

In this case, TQB = (Runs Scored/Offensive innings played) - (Runs Allowed/Defensive innings played)

Not sure the same thing will be done here.

Yes, GB for example, have players who are only eligible because of the following rules.

The player has one parent who is, or if deceased was, a citizen of the nation the team represents.
The player has one parent who was born in the nation or territory the team represents

GB's best player, Jazz Chisholm, only qualifies because his father was born in the Bahamas when it was still a British colony and had a "British Overseas Citizenship" until the Bahamas became independent. Jazz will never gets a true UK passport because the government citizenship laws do not  allow it.

in this tournament the rules about elegibilty of the players are less strict than those of the IOC
teams like GB or ITA or some others might have to give up on some of their best players in today's team (who are actually north Americans with not so tight heritage to the Country) when playing the next qualification tournaments and, if there, the Olympic event itself
